Actually, like we talked about earlier in this thread, your oil pump shaft/distributor alignment is off. If it runs this way, and you can proprely set the timing, I would leave it there. I just don't know if the timing mark show proprely with that type of arrangememt. A locksmith can fix that key lock. You'll have to remove it and take it to him with the key. It's kind of a pain to remove if it's never been out because of the two security screws. I always replace them with regular screws when I reinstall.

Yeah it is a pain but replacing with normal screws makes it easier to steal your car. I guess if they really want to bypass the ignition it's not that hard.

Sounds like your having one problem after the other Chickenwafer I agree with Sblake sounds like your 1 tooth out timing wise. Don't despare though I'm having just as much fun installing my tokico's at the moment

When I replaced all of my locks along with the ignition it took about 30 seconds each to use my dremel tool with a cutoff disk to put a slot in each security screw so that they could be backed out with a flat blade screwdriver.

Bypassing the ignition is certainly easy. All you need to do is unplug the connector from the back and plug it into your own ignition assembly which you brought along. The biggest deterrent to a would-be thief is probably the steering column lock.

Wow... this is really weird... I think I mentioned this in another post, but for whatever reason, my firing order is 1-5-6-3-2-4

... and, because I know you're going to ask, I tried 1-5-3-6-2-4, and that made the engine run noticeably worse. I could hear that it wasn't firing properly.

At least that's the way I remember it... My buddy and I discovered this when we replaced the cap, rotor, wires, and plugs... that the way printed in the Haynes manual was not the way it was actually connected on my car... :paranoid:

Any ideas?

Yeah, go back to the beginning of this thread and read all posts, especially the ones about changing the firing order. Carefully trace your wires and if the car is running properly, you'll find that no matter where 1 is it will be followed by 53624.

thanks for the lock suggestions, guys. I guess I better remove it. It's already been removed once (the key broke off inside the igition about 6 years ago and a locksmith came to the car and did it himself- took about 2 1/2 hours) so I don't know if he reinstalled the security screws or not. If he did I might as well go with Mike's idea and use a Dremel with a cutting wheel to cut in a slot for a flat-head screwdriver I get frustrated easily so this is probably the best idea.

How much will it cost for the locksmith to fix it? Any ranges? Like between $50 and $100 bucks? Money is tight (it squeaks).

But going back the firing order, I don't know how my oil pump shaft and dist alignment can be off. The previous owner is my father, and I called him up when I was having problems with the car and he said (to his knowledge) the dist or oil pump shaft has never been altered (he never did any work himself, so it easily could have by some mechanic in a hurry). He doesn't even know what the oil pump shaft is anyways, so it is very possible, he just doesn't remember it (along with a lot of other things).

Anyways, I will get to the lock today and hopefully get it to a locksmith. Hope it isn't too much to fix. Quick question- are the ignition lock assemblies switchable between Z's? Like will a unit from another 260 (or any other Z) fit into mine so I can possibly just buy that from a parts car and not get mine fixed? I think they are interchangeable between 260's (I have a 260), but could I use a 240 or 280 unit? Thanks in advance.

Dave

Yep, false alarm sports fans. It's all cool. LOL
