78 280zcar Posted July 30, 2005 Share #1 Posted July 30, 2005 I just went and got a 5 speed tranny from a 1979 280zx. I know that I will need the flywheel, clutch kit, master cylinder, slave cylinder. I have a slave cylinder hose on its way. Do I need the starter and the driveshaft or can I just use the auto driveshaft. Any other things that I will need, please let me know. Thanks in advance
beandip Posted July 30, 2005 Share #2 Posted July 30, 2005 Get the drive shaft , you will need a pilot bearing . While you are right there replace the rear main seal . You can do it with out droping the pan , just get a seal puller , about $5.00 . This will save a lot of work later if the old one starts leaking . LanceM Posted July 30, 2005 Share #3 Posted July 30, 2005 Clutch and brake peddle assembly, manual trans consol, shifter knob... Plus you will have to wire around the neutral safety switch, and will probably have to run a wire with the correct connector for the reverse light switch which is on the tranny. 78 280zcar Posted August 2, 2005 Author Share #6 Posted August 2, 2005 Thanks. That is what the assembly looks like that is already in my car it has the hook up for the spring on top and a threaded hole for the bolt that holds the clutch pedal, yeah mine looks exactly the same except for there is no clutch pedal arm . How about you just send the arm with the bolt and the round thing that goes around the bolt and the spring and I will send you 20.00. Thanks for the pics. sblake01 Posted August 3, 2005 Share #7 Posted August 3, 2005 You'll need the whole assembly because, if memory serves me correctly, the a/t brake pedal is wider and would interfere with the clutch pedal.

PrOxLaMuS© Posted August 3, 2005 Share #10 Posted August 3, 2005 you dont need the entire bracket... there's a bolt and the pedal.. and a spring...all i did was simply swap out the pedals and bolts because the pedal assembly has the hole to mount the master cylinder and pedal...
