Posted August 1, 200519 yr comment_132605 Hello Z car people. I signed-up yesterday after my 82 280ZX turbo came home from having the front brakes replaced and the clutch went out. Bad luck I guess because I hadn't even noticed a problem with the clutch. I'm going to try and find someone to repair/replace the clutch. About how expensive is this task. I hate to have to give up this Z - its b-e-a-u-tiful. :classic: Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/16757-new-member-with-questions/ Share on other sites
August 1, 200519 yr comment_132643 When you say 'clutch went out' what are the symptoms? It could just be a hydraulic problem (master or slave cylinder) which is not that hard to repair. August 1, 200519 yr comment_132645 In a reasonable shop, with a good mechanic, I'd say 4 hours and $200.00 parts. 4 X $65.00 = $260 + $200 = $460Tell us what they quote you. Pat, Fill in your profile so we can see what city are you in. Maybe someone can recommend a shop. August 1, 200519 yr comment_132646 Oh! and Steve is correct! there are a few other, less costly things that could be described as "Clutch went out". Give us some details. August 1, 200519 yr comment_132669 Autozone sells a "clutch kit" (alignment tool, clutch, pressure plate, pilot bearing and the throwout bearing too I think) thats pretty good for a little over $100. I did this job myself on a saturday in about 5 hours on my car (a '78 280Z). I believe this job would similar on your car but I cant say for sure.
