Posted August 1, 200519 yr comment_132685 What does the "transverse link inner bolt" do?It's a small bolt which is welded in, with a 12mm (approx) nut - one in the middle of the left rear transverse link, one in the middle of the right rear transverse link.I sheered off the one on the lefthand side, and I'm not sure whether the car is driveable without it?? :paranoid: Can anyone tell me what that bolt/nut does? And if the bolt breaks off, what are my options to repair it? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/16765-transverse-link-inner-bolt/ Share on other sites
August 1, 200519 yr comment_132687 It keeps the spindle pin from moving. If you just broke off the nut then the pin itself is still in place and doing its job. Based on the trouble most of us have had getting the spindle pin out you probably have nothing to worry about. You should be able to push the pin up and out and then replace it. August 2, 200519 yr comment_132691 Can I replace it with any old bolt that fits? Or is it a special part?Easy to find/replace??It's special in that it has a flat side that properly fits in the slot in the spindle pin. If you can get it pushed out you'll see. If you can't find a proper replacement you may be able to take a bolt that's the equivalent size and grind it to match. My MSA catalog lists the "Lockbolt", P/N 23-4241 at $11.11 US. August 2, 200519 yr comment_132739 Don't you have bicycle shops in the states? You'll get a bolt [ cotter pin ] to match there. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/16765-transverse-link-inner-bolt/#findComment-132739 Share on other sites

If it's the same diameter, has a tapering flat side and can be bolted up one side then it's a bicycle cotter pin in England! Yah, they are relatively the same shape but the tapered bolt for the Z is quite a bit larger than the bicycle crank arm pins you mention.
