Whats this car worth?

I agree most with what Mark Dixon said. Get the car because you want it and then go for whether the low vin# is a factor for you. Personally, I would love to have a low vin# car someday. It is not for bragging rights or the resale value, but for the amount of information I could/would potentially learn from these cars. For example, Chris (26thZ) seems to be discovering new things about the very early Z cars from his experience with restoring his. I never knew that the early choke knob was made of bakelite, or that there was a red dot on the rearview mirror instead of a sun/moon, or that some of the body panels were originally put on the car with rivets, or about the hand made emblems....the list goes on. This type of first hand experience with an early vin# car will give you the knowledge of being able to separate and date different parts and cars down to the month. I understand that not everyone is intrigued by this, but if you are, owning an early vin# car will be a joy.

I am not trying to say that a low vin# car is better either because it is not. The low vin# is just a perk to an already fabulous car.

Chris, your car is going to be such a hybrid Z with the Watanabe's, wooden momo steering wheel, S30-ZL passenger foot rest, shaved rear turn signal indicators, and I am sure I missed something else. I hope you know I am being very sarcastic. Keep up the good work with her Majesty.

Hey Ben!

We're off to the convention next week. Will be thinking of you. You coming?

I'm not going to shave the rear lights. The majority of the car is going back together the same way it came apart and I am not going to destroy the unique character of an early car. In fact, I am remanufacturing several parts that don't exist any more. I'm going for the "Z-L" look but I dare not do anything that can't be easily reversed with a part change. Of course, thats a little on the liberal side of "restoration" but if you call that "hybrid" then everyone is hybrid. You know what trouble I have been into. There are parts out there that I just can't help but put on my car! We're just at the tip of the restoration iceberg at the moment. There are still many, many considerations before I even paint the babe. I still have all the seam sealer to apply and the sound insulation. Long way to go!
