Need help with '72 240z engine wiring, thanks!

first i just wanna say thanks for clicking on my thread, now my problem is kinda dumb, and irresponsible of me but i just have to ask for some help, i took my '72 240z Datsun engine to be rebuilt, bought new replacement parts instead of using the old rusty parts i had, and put everything back as it was within the car, or as i thought it was, tried to start the car up, but didnt come on, i think that the wiring is way off, and i was wondering if anyone had any images of wiring, or .pdf files, or any other ideas of other things that can be wrong, i really think i just put things in the wrong place, so i need a wiring diagram, i would be in your guys and if there lady mechs here's debt thanks! :nervous:

The factory service manual as well as all of the 3rd party service books have a wiring diagram. For a 240Z it's only a single page so it's not that complicated compared to most cars. Which wires in particular did you unplug? What makes you think that it's a wiring problem?

The 72's weren't too much different from the 71's unless yours is a later 72, then it's closer to the 73's but still different. (Trust me, Beandip and I are having loads of fun with this one.)

Give us the build date, whether it's an Auto or Manual, and if you've done the electronic dizzy mod. Also, take a look at your passenger side kick plate and tell us or show a picture of that area. A later style 72, not yet a 73 will have a central panel with the relays all together. An early 72 will have the kick panel look like a 71, except that there is one relay on the dash frame and another one in the engine compartment. If you have the Seat Belt Buzzer and light also helps to "date" your wiring.

Here is the wiring diagram. I was actually able to blow it up and print it out on 12 pages several years ago using paint shop pro, and even at that side, its very legible.

edit, it was too big, so I had to downsize it, but it should still enlarge nicely.

I was able to use that diagram, blown up, to dissect 2 butchered harnesses and make on complete one, totally unmolested with every wire labelled for my last car. The wiring is really very simple if you just take the time to trace it out.

If all you did was remove the motor and thats the only electrical connections that have been messed with and you knew it cranked before that relatively easy, I also have a 72 and can take pics if needed for the main wiring , the starter / battery main harness power supply I think its 3 main wires and then you have the 3 or 4 wires to the dizzy < did you install an electronic distributor?> and then the water temp sensor and the oil pressure sensor , if you did install a electronic distributor I have a wiring layout for that but that alone wouldn't cause it to not crank at all, sounds like you didn't hook up the wiring from the batter or from the main harness to the starter, assuming all you did was pull the motor and didn't go farther into the wiring.

Sorry, I am a little unclear: What does "didn't come on" mean? Didn't crank, cranked but didn't fire, no power at all (to things like lights)? Not to sound so simplistic, but I had a similar experience with an easy solution:

Took two weeks to redo my front suspension. Took out the battery, set it in my shed, did the work. Put the battery back in, car wouldn't start--nothing Turns out the battery had discharged completely!

Are you sure your battery is good?
