Posted August 4, 200519 yr comment_133035 I was wondering if anyone has used a different automatic shifter handle in a Z other than the standard "T" handle? I'm looking for something that makes it look more like the manual shifter that will interchange without modifications for my 73 Z. I did a search and saw a thread that had Tomohawk using a handle out of a dodge but it didn't give much details. Anyone use anything else?Greg Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/16790-automatic-shifter-handles/ Share on other sites
September 19, 200519 yr comment_138548 I don't use the whole handle, just the knnob part. I had to make an adapter tube from two pieces of brass tubing, one fits inside the other for strength. Then I had to cut the pushrod to the right length.I don't think there's anything you can just put on there, except another oem part. Why didn't you just ask for more details? September 19, 200519 yr Author comment_138590 Thanks for the info. I was hoping someone knew of a knob that I could just switch without mods. I think I will just look for a new original handle since mine is pretty beat looking. September 19, 200519 yr comment_138596 OEM Surplus has two of these left. They are the complete shifter assy.for an automatic up to 73 and they are new. The msrp is something like $272 but he generally sell stuff for 25% so it would cost you about $70 or so. http://www.oem-surplus.com/nwp/index.htm Right click on the page and look in 240Z, 260Z, 280Z (1970-1978) Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/16790-automatic-shifter-handles/#findComment-138596 Share on other sites
September 25, 200519 yr comment_139447 I waws thinking about doing the same thing as I did before, but with a shifter knob from a T-Bird. Does anybody know ifthe earlier T-Birds (2000 - 2003) had mecanical shifters or were they all electronic? the 2004 one was a button with wires going down to the transmission. The Z needs one with a pushrod in the shaft.thx Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/16790-automatic-shifter-handles/#findComment-139447 Share on other sites
