sblake01 Posted August 12, 2005 Share #14 Posted August 12, 2005 The body of the muffler on my car measures 14"x10"x2.5". The inlet and outlet are 2.25". It's a Dynomax Super Turbo as in the picture above and it replaced my stock muffler without modification. Since mine is a California car, I have a catalytic converter instead of a resonator. It's not loud at all until you get hard on the throttle.
LanceM Posted August 12, 2005 Share #15 Posted August 12, 2005 Interesting view of how a mufflers works! However, I think the object of a muffler is to attinuate the sound pressure level (SPL) of the exhaust notes coming from the engine. You may be right, my knowlage comes from wepon suppression and often times the reference to an auto muffler is used. Probably a case of more than one way to skin a cat. Cooling and slowing exhaust will quiet it whether it be from a rifle chamber or an engine cylinder, though with the room available on a car simpler methods can probably be used as you have explained.
