Fuel Pump issues

My fuel pump seems to have quit pumping fuel. I tried to get it to pump fuel into a jar and it was bone dry. I disconnected it from the gas tank like to test if it was sucking and it was pretty weak. I took it apart and everything inside LOOKS to be fine :disappoin

Any suggestions on where to go? I was thinking I'd try that RX-7 pump that has worked for others, but my local junk yard was no help there. I also found this little pump, but I've read it is reliable, but loud. I don't know if I want to spend $50 to find out if it's too loud. Or maybe I should spend a bit more and get something like this ?

:stupid:

Need more info, is it the mechanical or electric pump that has died? If it is a factory add on electric there is a filter in the bottom of it that may be clogged. If it is the mechanical pump replace it with a stock replacement.

The PO of my '73 had put that model in. I couldn't get it out fast enough as I couldn't stand the harsh tapping sound it made. No amount of rubber mounting would get rid of it. In fariness, I don't know if it was just my unit or that's just how the Facet's are.

I think the "rotary" models are quieter, but also more expensive. I can't tell if the second one you listed is rotary.

I found a generic (not for any particular car model) at Autozone for about $30 that was much quieter. You can still hear it a little at idle with the windows up, but otherwise I don't notice it.

it is a stock mechanical so far as I can tell. I rewired the whole car and there is a nice little lead for a fuel pump. I called around to find the price for a new mechanical pump and the prices are ~$150. I figured it might be a good time to spend the money to get a good electric pump, no?

The MSA pump is not OEM but is probably good enough. I wouldn't bother with something that wasn't designed for the car unless you're sure it will work. If you went with the electric you'd probably also need to purchase a block off plate for the original which goes for another $12 which makes up the difference in price. My factory service manual lists the mechanical pump at 0.24-0.30kg/cm^2 or 3.41-4.27 PSI.

I believe the MSA ia an OEM. It is the same japanese brand as the original and exact in all the details.

I'm just going by the quote on the MSA page that I referenced:

"This is a very high quality aftermarket replacement pump. For Carburetor fuel systems only."

You may be right in that it could be made by the same manufacturer that Nissan used but just doesn't come in a Nissan box. I'd certainly use it. I've even bought fuel pumps from the local auto parts stores.
