Posted August 9, 200519 yr comment_133478 Hey, I'm in the process of shopping around for an exhaust system, and tips to top it all off. I like stright cut, rolled edge tips, but the only ones that fit 2.25 inch tubing have an outlet of a very "rice" evoking 4 inches. Maybe I'm wrong and it looks fine? not too big for a Z? Let me know what you guys think. You like non-rolled edge tips? Let me know. I'm open to suggestions. August 9, 200519 yr comment_133484 I'd check summit racing for some reasonable sized exhaust tips, 4" is too close to being ricey IMO. I personally get a kick out of my set up which is just (2) 18" glasspacks with 2.25" tubing and a 2.5" slash cut tip. People are always confused with so much noise coming out of such a small tip. August 9, 200519 yr comment_133487 I always thought that a 4" tip looked fine on a Z or an 810 for that matter. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/16838-4-exhaust-tip-too-big/#findComment-133487 Share on other sites
August 9, 200519 yr Author comment_133492 Clamp on or weld on? What do you recommend? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/16838-4-exhaust-tip-too-big/#findComment-133492 Share on other sites
August 9, 200519 yr comment_133493 Too big, looks tacky IMO. But what do you mean "the only ones that fit 2.25 inch tubing have an outlet of ... 4 inches"? I feel that if you can't find a tip smaller than 4" you aren't looking around enough! Plenty of choice in Australia at least, even a "love heart" shape if that's your thing... For my Z I chose 3", which fits perfectly in the lower valence.http://www.classiczcars.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=2616&cat=3078&page=1 Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/16838-4-exhaust-tip-too-big/#findComment-133493 Share on other sites
August 9, 200519 yr comment_133499 Watch out Stephen, the TomoHawk patrol is going to impound your car for that exhaust tip! Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/16838-4-exhaust-tip-too-big/#findComment-133499 Share on other sites
August 9, 200519 yr Author comment_133500 But what do you mean "the only ones that fit 2.25 inch tubing have an outlet of ... 4 inches"? The only removable ones I've seen in the style I like (Straight cut, rolled edge, single opening, 6-8 inches long) have a 4" outlet. BTW, just as a bonus question, do you guys prefer chrome or polished stainless steel? August 9, 200519 yr comment_133501 I found an angle cut 2.5 bolt on down at pep boys that fits right on my 2.25. It doesn't look half bad, but I'm just using it until I can find a weld on. They are harder to come by around here. Pics in the link below. As far as chrome of steel, its really all up to you. Chrome is probably going to be cheaper, but will need polished, whereas you car pretty much just leave steel along and it still looks fine. August 9, 200519 yr comment_133505 Why would you want a removeable tip Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/16838-4-exhaust-tip-too-big/#findComment-133505 Share on other sites
August 9, 200519 yr comment_133510 I prefer weld on, stainless steel for my tacky exhaust tips. :classic: Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/16838-4-exhaust-tip-too-big/#findComment-133510 Share on other sites
August 9, 200519 yr comment_133511 4" Exhaust Tip Too Big? Yes. My zed.... 2.25" pipe straight out the back, painted matte black. Looks great IMO, suits the car quite well. IMO, a car with a shape as great as the zed, doesn't need any bling to make it look good. Such things are just a distraction from it's true beauty. August 9, 200519 yr comment_133516 I don't consider it bling. Remember it's a 280. Big bumpers, big tip. :classic: Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/16838-4-exhaust-tip-too-big/#findComment-133516 Share on other sites
