Weight of 240 models?

Hi, First post here. Owned two in the past -- a 1972 240 during the '70s, and a 1976 280 during the '80s. Loved both. Loved 240 more but harder to live with. Would like to get back in.

Request: can somebody with a 1972 or 1971 tell me the weight spec displayed on plate on the door jam? Trying to get an exact fix on the weight spread vs. a 1973 or a 260. I know it's come up before, but to avoid apples-and-oranges, it'd be nice to have that official spec.

Many thanks. This forum looks terrific.

Steve in Oakland.

The weight is not on the door tag. My 1972 Factory Service Manual lists the following. I copied this exactly but note that there seem to be problems with the numbers. In the US and Canada the automatic seems to weigh 50lbs more but in other areas it only accounts for 2kg (or 4.4lbs) even though it's listed as 70lbs more. I tried to format this as a table but it wouldn't happen.

HLS30UV 1,066kg 2,350lbs USA and Canada 4-speed manual

HLS30AUV 1,089kg 2,400lbs USA and Canada 3-speed automatic

HLS30 1,043kg 2,300lbs LHD 5-speed manual

HLS30A 1,045kg 2,370lbs LHD 3-speed automatic

HS30U 1,043kg 2,300lbs RHD 5-speed manual

HS30AU 1,045kg 2,370lbs RHD 3-speed automatic

HLS30Q 1,043kg 2,300lbs LHD for Europe 5-speed

HS30Q 1,043kg 2,300lbs RHD for Europe 5-speed

Wow, thanks to you both. I've seen some eBay photos showing weights of 2700-2800 lbs for 1973 models, on the door plate. Anybody have a book that lists something else? I wouldn't have thought the spread would be this much. My Clymer's book is long gone, unfortunately.

Thanks again,

Steve

My '72 doesn't have any weights listed on the door jamb, I wonder if the #'s you've seen there are GVWR, which is the max the car should weigh with luggage, people, etc.

In my glove box there is a sticker that say's permissable vehicle load capacity 420 lbs. That would equal ~ 2750 lbs. , a bit closer to the #'s you mentioned.

FWIW,

Nate
