If I shave off the rain gaurds above the doors, will the doors leak?

There is more to it that just cutting them off. They are the seam beteween the roof and the inner door frame. To do it right you will have to cut them back a piece at a time and weld the seam shut, then grind the weld flush. Not an easy task but one that has been done before. Considering the chance of mishap and mistake I would leave them alone unless you really know what you are doing....

If you check blueovalz's (Terry Oxandale's, sorry if I misspelled the last name) website, granted he is not a purist, but he has done it. In addition he has some nice pics showing how he did it. I don't have the link my bookmarks got all deleted. But google it, check hybridz or maybe even around here...

Wow, looks like a lot of work, but totally worth it.

No, the gutters are only to stop rain running from the roof into an open window.
