LanceM Posted August 15, 2005 Share #1 Posted August 15, 2005 Though I've owned my Z almost 20 years I really only have been working on bringing it out of storage for the last 2 or so. Did all of the usual things an old Z needs. Welded in body panels, stripped the floor and interior, new brakes, springs, and a 5 speed. All toward looking to make a good driver, maybe local town car show thing, no restore, for sure no concourse car. But it seems the closer I get to the finish the more that "just isn't right" and so more to do. Now I'm thinking of pulling the engine to do a good job painting the engine compartment.... But does it ever stop??? Anyone ever stop?? Say the heck with it I just won't open the hood, the paint inside will match it will just be old and dirty looking?? I mean the engine is just a start, everything else will have to come out, at the rate I'm going it will be another year before it is stripped, painted and reassembled.... Or is it a case that the longer I work on this the deeper the Zbug bites?? AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH, enough!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
240ZX Posted August 15, 2005 Share #2 Posted August 15, 2005 Patients grasshopper! Rome was not built in a day! And to answer the question of....are they ever done? No! After two and a half years of intense research and labor, my 240 was finally a driver again (see my pics). The truth is, most guys and or gals who have the car thing going on will tell you the same. Now if you've seen my pics, you might think its done! Well, it is....at least until the next little project come about. As an example...I'm currently fabricating and buying parts to change the front suspension on my 240 tom have complete adjustability for camber and caster as well as relocate the LCA pivot points for less bumpsteer. Again, stay focused on the end result....what you want it to be! The day you have it done (sort of anyway) and are driving it around all prowd, you will be glad you stuck with it.
