Help : SU carb. selection

Hello Z&ZX people,

guys any one can advice me to chouse the suitable su carb. cos i found 3 diff. type of SU carb.Now im using that carb which is came in 260 Z it has anumber HMB46W and it is new and the car run ok but the engin consuming to much gas.it has no control to adjust gas amount but i can reduce or increase the air via bypass valve to rich/lean firing.

when i checked scrap(place in kuwait that import used engins from japan) i found 2 diff carb. the saler talk too much about them, he said they are the best even they are very old.they are smaller than what im using now and they fit in 240 Z and datsun SSS but i cannot trust saler (afghani guy). they both have gas control valve located at the bottom. the 240Z carbs is round at the top with 4 polts to fix into air intake, the other one is flat top with only 2 polts to fix into air intake.The saler ask around 150$ for each carb set . As the afghani saler i need to clean them and fix to engine and only play by the 2 gas control in the bottom to catch the best gas amount.

cos of no body use theis carb here in kuwait even the nissan dealer dont know anything about them i thankfully for any word from you.

The round top SU's from the 240 are the way to go. You can get a rebuild kit from www.ztherapy.com or buy a rebuilt set from them but the shipping might be pricey. The flattop SU's from the 260 are not very good, they were made for better emmisions and not performance. I do not know the gas mileage difference between the two but I get around 25+ on the road and 20 in town, but if I drive it hard then the milage goes way down.

The carb with the 2 bolt holes for attaching it to the manifold is likely for the 510 L-18 moter, and not suited for your Z motor. Don't buy it. There's lot's of photos and good information about the carbs you want on the ZTherapy site. Learn as much as you can, so the crooked parts guy won't sell you the wrong parts!

Using too much gas! Wouldn't have thought that worried you in Kuwait!!
