Period correct mods

I'm interested in purchasing a 240Z with the intention of adding period correct, Japanese market (or good repros) parts, such as a G nose w/headlight covers, bolt on flares and Watanabes. Where should I start and what should I look out for ? Any info or opinions are welcome.

Well first start by holding up several banks preferable ones with lots of money. JK I have tried and not with much success to get period correct upgrades , you will find most of the repro are very costly because of the time and expertise involved in them. Most of the wheels can be found at a price expect between 800 and 2500 for a set depending on offset, size and what type . The most difficult to find as in parts that you mention might be the g nose headlight covers. Most other can be found and if you shop at a somewhat reasonable price . But everything is based on what one feels is reasonable.

Seerex is right about period correct parts being harder to find and much more money. Personally, I prefer period correct home market modifications because I am a huge fan of Fairlady Z's, Japan, and the classic Japanese car culture. However, I can still appreciate various modifications on Z's eventhough they may not be my style.

As mentioned earlier, the headlight covers are going to be difficult to find, but if you talk with one of the club members here from Japan you should be able to find a pair. Expect to pay somewhere around 600-900USD for a set.

If you want to buy brand new watanabe's, talk with wheelchoice out of Los Angeles and they can help. Depending on the things seerex said about the wheels, you should be able to get a new set with lugnuts for about 2200USD through wheelchoice, which would be really wide and deep. You can watch ebay for a set of watanabe's, but you will be very lucky to find a set that would fill the flares nicely. Really wide watanabes are not impossible to find on ebay, but pretty uncommon. The prices for watanabes on ebay seem to be pretty fair and really deep ones seem to not be as desireable because most people don't have the flares to accomadate them. I would definately keep an eye there.

Welcome to the club. I hope you get that 240z and modify it the way you prefer. It may take a lot of work, money, and waiting to get the parts, but it will be well worth it.

Hmm, the goal for the 240Z that I don't yet have (got a couple I'm looking at) is more pedestrian. I'm going to want period correct mods, yes. But I'll be looking for period US market mods, not the home market of Fairlady stuff. Things like a Spook spoiler, period wheels, etc. Much more affordable stuff, it sounds like.

I have been collecting period correct stuff for three years or more with a similar intention. I think the thing to do is your homework and make a plan about what you want. There are several "period corrects" to choose from. I think you will find that the more you look, the more you will find. For the most part, I would say that the more obscure you get, the more costly it is going to be. Have fun...
