L28ET head gasket problem?

My new Felpro head gasket came in today. When I placed it onto the block, a lot of the oil and coolant passages get blocked off. I have another one for the E88 head and it does not close as many holes as the turbo one does. Is the turbo gasket safe to use with all those passages closed off or should I use the E88 one? I'm confused. The package said it was for my engine?

Thanks

Brian, do the holes in the block you mention match any holes in the head? If there are holes in both I would not block them under any circustance. Sounds like the Nissan guy was being a d*** because you bought FelPro and not OEM Nissan. Just a thought but I'd check for the holes.

I don't see why they wouldn't. It is a turbo F54 block and P90 head. When I tore the head off the block during the begining, the gasket shredded. I could not get any numbers or even a product name. (I assume it was a Nissan one) The ports I am conserned (sp) about are all the small ones in the front and a couple that run down the sides. I'll have to post a pic later to clearify what I am seeing.

Okay so I did some research on your F54 block, from this website. http://www.geocities.com/zgarage2001/z.html

Bryan Little says this about his own F54 build up "According to Nissan, L series head-gaskets should be installed dry (no sealer). I've tried a couple of head-gasket brands and I really like the Fel-Pro brand. It seals well, and as a bonus at rebuild it simply pops off the block, little scraping is necessary.

I've seen comments that it's thinner than a stock gasket, and may increase compression slightly. I've also heard it may not seal well for turbo motors, but on regular motors I think it's ideal.

I very lightly spread gasket sealer around the water jacket holes on the gasket. This keeps it from weeping coolant from the edges which is a problem on older motors"

So I guess if you got the correct head gasket from FelPro then run it. If not, double check.

I went back to the parts store and showed the guy there my holes were being closed off. He says that it would be alright and that he uses all Fel-Pro gaskets in his car. "Some of the holes need to be blocked off so that the coolant circulates." :ermm: I hope he is right. This is my first rebuild and I don't want anything to go wrong having waited all this time and spent all the money just to have detination and distruction to the engine. Here are some of the pictures I just took of it.

1) The block by itself

2) The block with the gasket on

I hope you can see what I am talking about.

Thanks.
