Posted August 18, 200519 yr comment_134743 Hey everybody!I recently purchased a 280z that has been in storage for quite some time. I was in the process of tuning up the engine to try and turn it over. I pulled the drain plug on the gas tank to make sure that no rust fell out and something else fell out - it looks and feels like pieces of rubber! My guess is that the vent lines and/or the return line are flaking on the inside. All the rubber hoses are shot (on the outside), so I want to replace them anyways. Anybody ever seen or heard of this before? Can somebody help me get a shopping list together to replace ALL of the fuel lines? Should I consider replacing the lines with stainless and/or putting in a bigger fuel pump. I've also noticed that the Z doesn't have a filter before the fuel pump... should there be one? Thanks!Tim Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/16952-rubber-in-the-gas-tank/ Share on other sites
August 19, 200519 yr comment_134778 If you're going to be replacing fuel lines...etc...etc, you may want to get a FSM (Factory Service Manual) as well as a Z car microfiche cd. (It will help out a lot in the long run) I suspect that if your fuel lines are in pretty bad shape on the tank end, then I can just wonder what they look like under the hood...point being that it just takes one small leak and you could have a major fire on your hands. You may want to do a search on "Fuel Tank Renu" if that z has been sitting for a long time. Do a search on "Alternate Fuel Filter" if you want to read up on doing a filter prior to the electric fuel pump. There is a small filter just inside the inlet side of the fuel pump (See picture) and it can be a PITA to get out sometimes. Napa has a pretty good selection of fuel rated hose to select from. Should be able to get just about everything you need from them... webdawg1 Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/16952-rubber-in-the-gas-tank/#findComment-134778 Share on other sites
