Just returning from the five day Z party and wondering if anyone has started a thread yet? Had a total blast. Drank a lot of rum. Did some seriously fun things and met a WHOLE BUNCH of people. Three gold medallions - a 300ZX twin turbo, a 450 mile original 280ZX anniversary edition and a modified 240 that you had to wear sunglasses to look at. Top score was 297 and the low was a 291 ? I think. Ed took honors with his car.

A bunch of us did the poker run in the rental car and got lost, but we did manage to find three junk yards, five z-cars and a running car for sale that had a vinyl top kit on it. Track day at Watkins Glen was a cool concept of combining it with professional driving instruction. I checked out Steve Millen and Bob Bondurant. "gnosez" gave me a couple of laps in the club car - thanks John. Two vintage Bob Sharp cars were there.

Both Mr. and Mrs. K went for hot laps in a 350Z with Bob Bodurant driving, I think? We slapped a Toyo Tire sticker on the windshield of the rental car and did three rather quick "warm laps" as part of the track tour group. I got a chance to chat with Mr. K for a bit and we exchanged gifts. The NISMO guys brought a 2006 350Z track edition to show us and we got to see the new ad campaign that will hit Monday Night Football this fall.

Next convention is in Dallas, June 1, 2006 and the 2007 convention is in Florida some time in October. My artsy - fartsy pictures will be up soon. I see that the overhead group shot posed from the track day event has not hit this site and I want to ask that it not be posted. Technically, Nissan owns that photograph and has copyright to it. I was up there with the Nissan film crew and was asked...kind of after the fact. It was a great time. Came home with a ton of stuff. Great to see everyone. And as I said, I drank a gallon of rum!

"so you like low miles eh marty, how's this

i wonder what the story is behind this one. notice odometer miles and the trip miles."

Yes I do. I just don't particularily like ZX's! Still, it's kinda neat to see car with ridiculously low miles. You don't see a "new" 1980 Z every day! If it was the red/black version, he would really have something there.

Nope! Bart didn't make it. Bart, Burt, Butt, whatever. Rumor has it he painted the car again. Talk about taking a nice car and ruining it!!!

The 919 yellow 240Z was a time piece, Marty. The guy even had a can of original touch-up paint. You could easily see the quality of the original paint job. The original orange peel and the thin spray coating underneath. I spent a great deal of time below the car, checking out the build marks. Just incredible.

Jeez!! I agree with you about him ruining a nice car. When he got it, I heard stories of him taking off original parts and throwing them away. Like the original tires. Sure, you would not want to drive on them, but there are lots of guys like Kats (and myself) that would have loved to have those to put on at shows. I think he tossed the original radiator and hoses and put in an MSA one (the kind with the fan shroud that is pointed in the center instead of rounded like the original. Oh well, it's his car, I guess he has the right to ruin it.

I bet you did spend a lot of time under that car! Planning details for 26th & 27th? Plus soaking up all the Z knowledge.

I love looking at that car since I also have a 919 Yellow. It's nice to see what mine "could" look like some day. One odd thing that I did notice is that there are no stickers on the air cleaner.

Do you know who owns it and where they are from?

I'm one of the guys doing the convention in Florida in 2007. The way this works is that the ZCCA accepts proposals and selects a convention site two years in advance, but the plans aren't announced until the previous year's convention is over. This year we will focus on Dallas / Ft. Worth in 2006. Here is the front and back of the brochure for 2006.

Start making your plans now. I'm going to bring Her Majesty. I consider the Texas clubs to be Z-car home turf and this one ought to be way too much fun. Syracuse was my second convention, I did Long Beach last year, and I'll tell ya. This is five days of total Z-car immersion and wet-your-pants fun.

Man, I really wanted to come this year. Too much going on in August. 2006 is perfectly timed for me though - Early June is between semesters here at the university, and I've got the dates "penned-in" (not penciled!). Hopefully the dates are stable...

Pictures! Anecdotes! More! More!

Chris, et al - nice thread and thanks for the kind words. On vacation and both the time to be online along with a dial up service makes responsing a chore.

If by the NY 240, you mean the guy with the most perfect Z in the world (his words not mine) I too was wondering where either he or the car was. Put up or shut up....

Now as to 006, perhaps Chris would like to expand on his inspection of this pre-production car and its' history.

As to our club race car we stand ready to help any club build their's. Bring it to a ZCCA convention and have Bob Bondurant drive it (he signed the dash too - good thing I caulked the cracks, hey?).

Hey there, gnosez! I think HLS30-00006 was the show circuit car that the model sat on the roof and bent it, so they gave the car to Bob. Check out the story - I think its on Zhome. For some reason ( I think Carl black-balled me ) I can't get on to the site anymore.

Marty, Here is my 1970 brochure with a photograph of the engine bay. No stickers.

Hi Chris, I was just scoping out the brochure and noticed a little detail I'm curious about. Every 1970 I've seen has the brake booster vacuum line coming straight out of the back of the balance tube. On later years it appears to point up (from the balance tube). Just curious about your input on this little detail!

#215 has it coming straight out of the end of the balance tube. The brochure shows that too. Where the tube curves downward is significantly aft of where the balance tube ends, and then it curves again right into the balance tube. I have a higher resolution image of the same page where that is fairly obvious, I believe. Harder to tell from the image in this thread.

We were all kind of standing around scratching our heads at the convnetion about those stickers. The owner pulled out the brochure and sure enough....

Here is a shot of the engine bay of the car. Brake booster hose out the back of the balance tube as Mark described. I have to go searching for the pics of 26th and I'll check 27th to see if there still IS a hose!
