that's not a yearly event...

that's a weekly event when the weather is nice!!!

what you are looking at is the parkinglot/rest area at the foot of Yokohama Bay Bridge. If you aren't in a car coming off of the freeway, you need to grab a cab from Yokohama train station and ask to go to Daikoku Parking Lot at the foot of Yokohama Bay Bridge. However because it is a freeway rest stop there's no easy way to get to it from the local side streets. You basically need to jump the perimeter fence behind the McDonald's there.

It's a fun place to go if you've never been because it caters to all kinds of cars, not just these wild and crazy one. There's a section for old Nostalgic Heroes, there's a section of kei-cars with thousands spent on HiFi and a bunch of kids dancing in front of them, there's a section of highly tuned current Skylines and Supras (some you'd swear came straight from the last round of JGTC), etc etc

Friday night and Saturday night after 9Pm is a good time to go and be prepared to stay a while. Who knows, if you ask the right person nicely you might get a ride on the freeway at triple digit speeds, or better yet if you are willing to fork over $$$ to pay the toll you might be able to convince someone to go do a high speed run in the tunnel that goes underneath Tokyo Bay which late at night is usually free of any commercial traffic...

<hint, hint> <nudge, nudge>

you also ought to consider a trip down to Tsukiji Fish Market in the early morning on a weekday for the freshest sushi ever and to see these trucks which are equally a fantastic sight...

Just like Bosozoku I would never attempt anything similar to that on anything I owned but I gotta say I love how outrageous the cars (& trucks) are...

Hi Eric, thanks for the information and pics!! Sounds like someone had a ball.....

I have been trying to find out what the style of those trucks is called. Does it have a name? What's the deal? Are these guys "bosozoku" trucks or is it a completely different scene?

Lachlan,

They are called "deco-cab truck" - the Japanese have a passion for short-cutting words and making up new ones. As you can guess, it means "Decorated Cabin Truck." But it's more than that. These are individually owned trucks that the owners "personalize" with custom paint jobs, art work, lights and chrome. It gets expensive. And think about this: what happens to your truck when you get a job hauling asphalt for the local road paving project? A lot of them are current or former Yakuza and Bosozoku and they drive like it. Tthen again, most truck drivers in Japan drive like they own the road - the only difference being that Corporate trucks are very plain.

That's so awesome. So you're saying these trucks actually ARE used for truck-like duties? I thought they were just mobile works of "art" - truckies getting their own back at those crazy Bosozoku guys! I saw pictures of the interior of one of them once, just crazy - as cluttered and completely overwhelming as the outside.

I love it!

As everyone has been waiting for pics, proofs, progress, etc... here is a small slide show that i will be updating throughout the next few months. the goal is to get the car complete by march 2007, which is a 3 years project (technically a 2 year project, after my 1 year hiatus). i will also create a website which will showcase all the new parts that i have been accumulating of the past number of months...until then, enjoy! :)

G'day Johnny,

I think remember this car from the ebay auction (2004 sometime?). Was it in Florida? ..anyway it sounded like it had a great engine..outran a quick mustang on the street...I remember thinking it was not a lot of money for a great sounding car.

If you have a look here, Skylines Australia-"Classic Skylines" you'll find quite a few guys and girls into the Skyline C210.

I love what you've done with yours and please tell us about the engine setup!(photos?:D )

That slideshow is cool:smoke:

Cheers, Jim.

Edit;..OK I just reread your later post" Florida car,-4/2004, Marine" that's it!:stupid:
