Electrical Gremlins

Some advice please!

1. My headlights only work on high beam. I have pulled and checked/rebuilt the switch. Pulled the headlight (replaced them too). Pulled all the connections I could find and cleaned them. Checked all the fuses. Checked everything with a meter...there is juice and continuity everywhere. I am stumped!!!!!

2. I notice the car has been hard to start. Pulled the Cold Start Injector and jumped it strat from the battery...works. With the electical connection plugged in does not work. Checked the plug and it is not getting juice.

Help! Am I missing a relay or link or something somewhere? I could not get to everything without disassembling the harness completely.

It is a late year 1978 280Z.

Also I can't get the Air Conditioner clutch to come on with the switch. It works when jumped direct from Battery. However, air is a luxury and I need to fix the other problems first. I only mention it as it may or may not have some relevance. Thanks again, David

As far as the AC thing, you might be low on freon which ususally indicates a leak somewhere in the system. If you have factory air, you have a pressure switch on the receiver/drier that won't allow the clutch to engage if the high side pressure is too low. The plug on the cold start vavle will only get 'juice' when the thermotime switch sends it a signal during cold cranking so check your thermotime switch. But as to the headlights, you've got me stumped since you've already checked everyting I would have suggested.

I'm going to go out on a limb and ask HOW you checked the fuses? Visually? If so, go back, pull them out and do an electrical continuity check.

If, on the other hand you did do a continuity check, did you do it IN the fuse holder? Take the fuses OUT and check them.

You'd be surprised how many times this is the problem EXACTLY.

Thanks Guys, now I have some more things to check. I did pull each fuse and check them individually, that is how I solved the mystery no brake lights problem.

I let you know what I find out. I may also get the headlight relay upgrade that one of our members makes. Best, David
