Hello. My name is Curtis Meeks and I am a new member from Hampton, Virginia.

I was originally looking for a later 240Z or a 260Z to swap an L28ET into. I watched the ads in the local papers, and looked at a few, and then a couple of months ago I went to check one out that ended up being #HLS30 00439. It was under a tarp in a family's back yard. It had been the son's car until it 1st and 2nd gear stopped working. It was nowhere near original, except the motor and trans, but the price was pretty low, and I just could not let it sit there and rot, or get purchased as a parts car, so I called my buddy that owns a wrecker and took it home.

The rust is pretty mild, just surface spots that are coming out easily after treating them and sandblasting the pits down to the metal. I am still open to suggestions on the color, but I am leaning toward the original colors, probably the green or silver.

I have already learned quite a bit reading through the old threads, and this will be the first place I ask for help as I run into problems. Thanks for putting up a great site with such a friendly and knowledgeable membership.

There is a registry for the first 500 american Z cars on Carl Becks website. I would suggest that you contact him and add your car to that registry. From a strict value standpoint it will be the most valuable in stock original condition.

Congrats on that find, go with the original color with that low vin#. If I had the money I would get mine back to the original color. Im new also, these guys now there stuff and are a lot more helpfull then other pages, more understanding towards newbies inexpierence with Z's then other pages.

I filled out the registry on Zhome, but it has not posted on the list yet. It does show my car on the list of VIN #'s found so far, just not the one with my information as well.

I am trying to figure out which color is original on my car. There have been at least 4 paint jobs, some better than others. You would think the bottom color under the rest is original, except the bottom color on the inside, outside, and in the engine bay are 3 different colors. That is why I said a original color, instead of the original color. I will get everything else back to original eventually, and now I still need a late 240 or 260 to modify!

Chances are the color that's in your spare tire well is the original color.

The spare tire well and the driver and passenger floors have been painted with a THICK black paint. I am guessing to prevent rust. It worked, they are rock solid. The rest of the inside was black as well, but much thinner, almost like a latex. I removed it today. It came off very easily. Under it, and in the small out of the way places, is 920 gold. I am betting it is the original color. :classic: One problem down.

This is great the low ven # , The value of this car will be related strongly on how originonal it turns out . You are looking at a complete dissambly and puting the shell on a rotisery , and big bucks like 20K , I hope you are up to this sort of project . All the best Gary

get on the floor and use a flashlight, look at the firewall up under the dash...or the pillar between the side roll up window and the windshield...if you move the black vinyl back on this pillar, it should show the original color too...

Welcome, and congrats on a great find--in my opinion, keep the original motor and do a full concours restoration on it--everyone on here would drool with the low vin you got if that was done.
