Hey all it's me ok this has been bugging me for a while now but when I first looked at my car before I bought it I saw a oil spray mark underneath my hood. The valve cover doesn't have a oil cap so I think busted the head when he was going 150 mph down the highway. But, anyway do you think there is a lot of dust or dirt where the oil cap screws on to? If it's yes how do I get it out?

I'm not sure that I understand the question, but if you are saying that there was no oil cap on the car when you got it and you're wondering if dirt and dust can get into the opening the answer is yes. And the oil will spray on to the hood from that opening. Remove the valve cover and see how things look inside. By all means, get a cap.

You have no oil cap or you have a valve cover that has no place for an oil cap? Busted the head , explain ? Well if you got dirt and such in the motor you need change it rather quickly , and if you have been losing oil from running without an oil cap < assuming> you might also run into the issue of low oil which can be a slight issue at 150 mph. So slow it down to 135 atleast, get an oil cap and get the oil changed .

Ian, Just get yourself a replacement oil fill cap (dealership, boneyard, or where ever) and put it on....then change your oil/filter! That should

take care of the oil spray on the inside of your hood and prevent the dirt from getting into the engine. As a suggestion, purchase or borrow some books on the basics of internal combustion engines and or car systems (brakes, drivetrain, electrical,etc.)...it may help you to understand the in's and out's of engines and the car's related systems. Learning the basics is always the best place to start from....without a good foundation (understanding), you'll have a tough time building a good house...so to speak!

There is no way it would even run without a oil cap. Z's are so sensitive when it comes to vac. leaks that they won't even want to idle with the Oil Cap removed or loose so I too am lost?????

If this is a 240 it will run fine with out the oil cap. However oil will spray all over the place and in short order , it is possable to loose enough to seze the engine for lack of oil . Right Richard ? If some one told you 150 mph he was on something .
