Funky starting

Ok well as i was screwin around with my Z today i had to move it several times. Over time i noticed that the starter started to slow down and slowdown . Then when i finally had to pull it back into my yard she cranked really fast then slowed down acting like the battery was dead. So i went over, looked over all the connections, cleaned em and still no luck. I hooked up a battery charger and it did nothing. So i put in one of my spare starters and solenoid off my parts car.. which i KNEW worked. I mounted it, wired it all up went to crank it and the same damn thing happened... Any suggestions hear?

Sounds like a dead battery . Put the charger back on it and leave it go for a couple of hours. More time if the charger is not a 10amp or greater . If the battery is the least bit weak , it wont hold a complete charge . Starting the engine puts quite a load on the battery. Doing this several times and not driving any real distance most likely just drained the battery . It take a little while for the battery to recover with with the alt recharging it . A good test to see if the battery is the problem . Turn on the head lights and blow the horn , this is with the engine NOT running. If the lights dim , this tells you it is discharged. Gary

Alright well im lettin the battery charge as we speak cuz i thought iot might be that i just found it amazing for it to drain it that fast ( about 6 fast starts) As for that test heh... The car is pretty much an engine and a shell so ill just charge it up and take it from there.. Thanks for the response just seein if this had happened to anyone before and cancelling out what it couldnt be the problem

So you say that you double checked all your electrical connections to make sure they were all tight and clean including the battery cables? How about the Battery itself? I'd test the Battery to see if it's any good. If you don't have the equipment to do so, than you can bring it in to just about any Auto parts store and they can test it.

Hopefully it's not a poor connection that you can't see. Like a slight break in a wire hidden by the insulation. Those are a real pain in the a$$ to find.

well i went out after chargin the battery for an hour and it was an instant start up. heh... it feels good when its something that small but i feel stupid when i go threw all this trouble to post everything and it turns out to be the battery... Thanks for ur responses though =)

I still don't think it would be a dumb idea to have it tested. If it's bad and weak it will seem ok after you have thrown it on a charger but if it's bad, it won't hold a charge like it should and will slowly loose it's charge again. Just my opinion.

i fully intend to get a new battery anyways... its just to move it around while im restoring it =)
