It all started with......

I'm sure this is how most of us get into our projects. I had a brake light short which resulted in removal of the dash sooo while I'm at it replace heater/vacuum hoses and dash bulbs. Clean harness up and fix po's bomb squad wiring job. Remove seats to get to wires ended up re-uphoulstering (ugly wool type covers)because they were out. Also dye faded carpet at the same time ,why not. Well the consoles out so why not do shifter bushings and grease driveshaft ,replace shifter boot. Turned out the reason the fuse kept blowing was a corroded bulb connection . Glad it's done but it's ironic how many detours get taken along the way when you look back at the origional objective.

Classic!!!

And you find yourself identifying small differences in the QC stamp on the back of all the items you put in and comparing the results with others who are also in the middle of their restoration to ensure that they're all period correct and fretting if they're not.....

ROFL

Good One!

i think we all get hit by the "might as well's", as in while i'm replacing this heater core i "might as well" replace the hoses, and the valve, and the grommets, and since i have the box out i "might as well" clean it up, lube the hinges and the cables, repaint it, replace all the door gaskets...............

ran into the same problem fixing just a hatch lock.

by the time i was finished (????), the hatch had new glass weatherstripping, all rear lights had new gaskets and cleaned lenses, new rivets, redone antenna, new paint on hatch strut, refabricated and recovered hatch finish panel...............

fix and clean up one item, it makes the adjacent piece look crappy by comparison so you just keep on going.

the good thing is by doing it all at the same time, you're refurbishing parts that probably haven't been touched in 30+ years and finishing whole quadrants at a time.

the bad thing is a $30 fix can turn into a $300 refurb in no time at all.

but we all have to have a hobby, don't we?

Dude my car was free. It was given to me by a member here who is a great freind of mine.

But it also runs like a brand new car sept for having low oil pressure :tapemouth

When we went and get her, My father and i didnt think to ckeck the rack unit. We drove that car 75 to 80 mph, 600 miles home. :nervous: Its a wonder we wernt scattered all over the interstate!

Everyone does it.

I changed my springs and shocks, so while it was all apart, I decided to replace all the rear half shaft joints because I had easy access. I know there will be others who have gone a lot orther though. I didn't want to touch the spindle pins though.
