Posted September 4, 200519 yr comment_136988 Ok, so I'm working on the front suspenion currently. I've got the calipers off and apart so I can rebuild and paint them. Without thinking I seperated the halves of the calipers, then later reading in Wick's book, I realized that what I just did is undesireable. He says its best not to break the internal fluid seal between the halves. So now that they are apart what should I do to reseal it? I was thinking it may be possible for them to be resealed just by attaching the caliper halves back together, but this is the kind of thing I want to be sure about, make sure it is done correctly. Any help is appreciated to expedite my Z restoration. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/17148-240z-stock-caliper-rebuild/ Share on other sites
September 4, 200519 yr comment_136993 I'd bolt them back together, take them to the parts store, and use them as cores for a rebuilt set of calipers. BAM, problem solved. September 4, 200519 yr Author comment_136996 Hmm, thats not a bad idea! I've never done the core return system at an auto parts store before. Do I have to return a core of the exact item that I am getting? September 4, 200519 yr comment_136997 you are supposed to, but if you return the cores 5 days after you buy the calipers.....will the guy remember what you bought 5 days previously? will he care? what if a different guy is behind the counter when you return the cores? September 4, 200519 yr Author comment_137017 well I was just wondering, what if I wanted to buy some toyota 4-piston calipers from a '82 truck? ;-) Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/17148-240z-stock-caliper-rebuild/#findComment-137017 Share on other sites
September 6, 200519 yr Author comment_137191 So one last try, has anybody here ever resealed calipers back together or know how to do it? Otherwise I guess I'll be looking at some new rebuilt calipers Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/17148-240z-stock-caliper-rebuild/#findComment-137191 Share on other sites
