October 15, 200519 yr comment_141783 If the mechanical pump is acting up , watch it closely . Depinding how it fails , it can pump gas into the crankcase , or it can cause a major oil leak . One the local Z drivers lost the engine because of a faulty mechanical pump. His oil sending unit was acting up also and the loss of oil pressure , he thought was due to that . He almost sezed the engine . He had to replace the engine anyway . October 15, 200519 yr comment_141848 Depinding how it fails , it can pump gas into the crankcase Well that just sucks. This sounds like a very poor design to me. Guess that's one thing that's gonna have to come off now. That new elec fuel pump is sounding better and better all the time. October 17, 200519 yr Author comment_142120 Yikes! How does a failing mech. fuel pump manage to leak oil? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/17169-73-fuel-pump-its-cut-where-should-it-go/?&page=2#findComment-142120 Share on other sites
October 17, 200519 yr comment_142154 doesn't leak oil, just blows a diaphram and pushes gas into the crankcase. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/17169-73-fuel-pump-its-cut-where-should-it-go/?&page=2#findComment-142154 Share on other sites

November 18, 200519 yr comment_146457 scary. I totally bypassed my mechanical pump, but its still bolted on. Should I remove it? November 22, 200519 yr Author comment_146832 I would probably say "yes". And there are nice block-off plates available to cover that spot too :-) Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/17169-73-fuel-pump-its-cut-where-should-it-go/?&page=2#findComment-146832 Share on other sites
