Info needed about my 71 Fairlady Z

Dayle,

Those are the rocker panels, not the frame rails, and the holes are the standard fabrication for the S30 chassis. I'll make some other comments...

I agree with Ben and Alan that your car is probably the ZL model, probably because so many of the "options" are present. The ZL model included many of the items we see as "options". Your example includes several more items and judging from the age, I would suggest that your wheel flares are indeed "factory". They appear to be the same FRP material as the rear spoiler would have been. The headlight scoops would also be FRP. I am surprised to see the lack of headlight covers. The rubber strips on the bumpers are correct, however I am surprised to see the over riders on the front bumper. Does the car have a mesh grill? And how about the lower lip front spoiler? Would love to see a picture of the fog lamp remains.

Surprisely enough the grill is in great shape..

heres a pic.

Ill take pics of "whats left" of either of the fogs

tomorrow too.

It may of had a front spoiler, but the center valance is

smashed pretty hard. Ill look for bolt holes.

It had HL covers, you can see where they use to

be bolted in. Maybe over the yrs they got dull or cracked

and the previous owner removed them.

I found a set I believe to be very close to FRP style that I may try to use in the future.

1. Car Stereo (with Hitachi 8 track)

2. Clock with Stop Watch.

3. Reclining Seat Device.

4. Passing Light.

5. Fog Lamps. (whats left of them, the factory wiring is still intact)

6. Dual Exhaust. ( thats the full twin-pipe system )

8. Racing Stripe.(cars been painted so who knows)

9. Rubber Bumper.

10. Over Rider. (dunno what this is)

11. Rear Glass with Electric Heater.

12. Air Spoiler.

13. Footrest ( Assistant ).

14. FM Pack.

I'm concerned that you are still not clear about what was standard Factory equipment for your car and what was not.......

As your car appears to be a 1971 Fairlady Z-L ( 'S30' model of the S30 series ) it would have had the following items from your above list as standard equipment when it left the Factory:

*Car Stereo.

*Clock with stop watch.

*Reclining seat device.

*Passing light.

*Rubber Bumper ( the rubber trim on the bumpers ).

*Rear glass with electric heater.

*Footrest ( Assistant ).

Other items you have noted in your list quoted above could have been specified as options when the car was ordered from the dealer, or could have been added later.

Could be 918 Orange, but it might also be 110 Red that has faded over time. Hard to tell from the pics.

outside its funny, theres a layer of lime green then the almost pink on top.

I think the greeny beige colour is probably primer showing through ( maybe high-build or sealing primer? ) and the faded coral pink top surface is exactly what happens to certain reds and oranges after many years of neglect in STRONG sunlight. Personally speaking, I love it...........

Has anyone heard of something called a G pkg ? from what I heard from 1 source that was suppose to come with the flares, special paint color and blacked out headlight buckets for starters.

You might want to take a large pinch of salt when hearing from certain 'sources'. Bear in mind that there is a lot of bad information in magazines, books and yes - the internet - about these Japanese market models.

I think your 'source' was almost certainly referring to the Fairlady 240ZG ( 'HS30-H' model ) - which was a low-volume homologation special produced for the Japanese home market only. Take a look at my Gallery on this site for pictures of a real one.

Just to clarify; The Overfenders on the car could indeed be genuine "Factory" Nissan items and the shape looks correct in the details.

However, let there be no mistake - the 1971 Fairlady Z-L model DID NOT leave the Factory with Overfenders.

In most cases, they were fitted several years after the car was new. Main reason for this was that the fitment of the Overfenders technically took the car up into the next vehicle taxation bracket ( due to the extra width ) and this would have been more expensive. They would also be *technically* illegal in Japan ( as a non-standard item for that model ), although the owner may have got away with it if he didn't meet any trouble-making traffic Police officers......

...would you mind to scan a close up of the body color chart? Although mine is a 4/71 and the brochure is for '70 I'm trying to hone in on a flavor of yellow, isn't the '70 different than what showed up in '71?...

The colour samples in the Japanese sales brochures are both tiny and actually nothing like the colours they are supposed to represent! I honestly don't think there's much point in me re-scanning and posting a close-up, as it will still be misleading.......

Hey Alan, thanks for that link...interesting to see the color chips associated with the full body shots...somehow the 919 flavor in the chips and the bodyshot look different, the bodyshot is somewhat paler and flourescent...I'm leaning towards this...I found a FIAT yellow (giallo) that is similar...does the color chart in the brochure have the color codes?

That lime yellow I thought came on later in '71, the yellow I'm speaking of looks like in that brochure but your scheme is confusing, I thought the entire unibody(not the underside) was sprayed the body color. Mine originally was silver, I think the PO repainted but kept the original color, interior panels and the engine bay match...I then painted it white...is your color code sticker still intact? BTW, does your have a rear sway bar? I'd be interested to see how that was mounted...

I didnt see a paint code sticker on the radiator support

like my other Z, and didnt see a rear sway bar

I don't know about you, but I see "1 8 30".

30th August 1971 manufacturing date stamp for the mirror mount? What do others think?

Car probably put together in September 1971? I'd be interested to see you cross-ref the other date stamps on the car to confirm / refine this.
