....Body serial numbers for 'S30' Fairlady Z-L and 'S30-S' Fairlady Z models ( yours appears to be a Z-L, as v12horse has pointed out to you ) in the 1971 manufacturing year started with S30-04050 and finished with S30-08328. At a rough guess I think yours will most likely have been manufactured between May and July of 1971.

Looks like I wasn't too far out then, doesn't it?

I thought this might be of interest. I really wonder how many Fairlady Z's have made it outside Japan? The pre 74' cars seem to be even rarer here in the states. It seems like there are a lot more 2/2's too.

-Ben :)

had the gastank cleaned out and restored

installed various new fuel lines thru out and

vent hoses

Rebuilt the Stromberg carbs, did a small tune up

on it.

Fired it up and it runs great, sounds good anyway.

Going to check the cooling system next, redo all

the hydraulics and brake line, and hope to get it actually driveable by Friday.

Then I need to put some sort of exhaust on it for now, looking at an Ansa muffler if I can find the correct one.

At least so I can drive it and go on to other areas that need attention.

Hitachi carbs, surely?

Good to hear that it is running again, but you appear to have something of a mountain to climb. That roof to rear pillar joint is particularly worrying. Is this going to be a rolling resto or are you going to strip the shell completely at some point?

When the time comes, If I keep that long Id strip

the whole car and have all the body panels replaced and or repaired as needed correctly, then put the car back together as close to stock as possible inside and out.

I can find donar cars here in Az with no rust and blown up engines pretty easy for sheetmetal when it comes down to it. Getting it road worthy and mechanically safe etc was my first goal.

motorcycle carb haha

Your photo shows a Hitachi built "Round Top" 4 screw SU, concurent with your 1971 build date. A few moths later, it would have been fitted with the "3 screw" models.

found out today I have a few bent valves, probably from not be started

for several years, ratz ! So to make myself feel better I rebuilt the carbs on my 72 and its running great :)

:disappoin This may have been addressed in the past, but is

the motor in my 71 Fairlady a true 2.0 ?

and will a 70-72 2.4L head work on my motor?

its that or redo the head currently on the car.
