Info needed about my 71 Fairlady Z

the motor in my 71 Fairlady a true 2.0 ?

and will a 70-72 2.4L head work on my motor?

You posted a picture of the engine block earlier in this thread. It had 'L20' stamped on it - so yes, it is an L20A and probably the original one that came in the car from the Factory too.....

You can't just put an E31 or E88 on the L20A block in place of an E30. You will have to consider 'eyebrowing' or 'notching' your block to allow the larger valves the open at full cam lift without hitting the block.

Also remember that the inlet and exhaust manifolds of the E30 head have smaller passages than those of the E31 and E88. Ideally you would want to change manifolds and carbs too.

But I wouldn't mess around too much if I were you. Either repair the L20A and run it, or pull it out ( put it into storage ) and put in an L24, L26 or L28.

Hitting the piston you mean? Wouldnt have thought that there would be much difference in the valve sizes in the e30 compared to the e31 or e33.

Noticed that the clock seems to have extra markings and third pointer (hours minutes and seconds I presume). Has this been mentioned before.

Yes, this has been mentioned before. The clocks are very neat. I believe that they were made by Citizen. There are a few types and they are known as "rally clocks". Just make a search and you will find quite a bit of information here about them. The rally clocks were offered in the Fairlady ZL, Fairlady 240Z, and Fairlady Z432. Basically, it was not equipped in the Z432R, or S30-S (both coupe and 2/2). Thus, they were never offered for an export vehicle. However, I have heard of a few US market cars having them during the period. I don't know how they got equipped with them, but the owners were definately lucky if this was not a myth.

The early clocks, 70-73, had a stopwatch function. Thus, the second hand and extra marks. This clock required an oscillating box which was located in the glove compartment. This is a very cool clock, and much more rare than the later clock.

The later clock, 74-78, is known as the "Calander clock". I think this is a slang term due to its function, but many people call it by calander clock. It is still a rally clock. It has a second hand, extra marks, no stopwatch function, but it has the date. I found one a few years back and I love it. There was no need for modification to install it into my 260z.

Im a recent member and I have a 71 hls07094 color safari gold, I was told it is a rare color. Can anyone tell me how rare or more importantly how many in this color were produced and was this the only year for this color???????

Or is there a nissan site that might have this info

Production numbers for particular colors wern't kept by Nissan. If you are talking about 920 Gold, which the only 240Z gold I've ever known, it's not rare as many members here have cars that color and I've seen many others at the shows, on the road, etc. Take a look at this color chart.
