Hello everyone. My name is Adam. Just thought I'd give out a shout to all of you in Zland.

About me: I live in Santa Cruz, CA. I'm a single father of a 13yo child and recently totaled a new motorcycle so I'm thinking of making a change. I'll soon be in the market for a 240Z so I wanted to learn all I could. I have wanted one of these cars since I was a wee little boy. Besides, I need something to tinker with to keep my sanity. I haven't even started looking around the forum but I think I found the right place.

Cheers,

I would suggest if you are looking or when you do look to buy, stay away from ebay as the Z's price sometimes gets really inflated there.

Since the 350Z came out the price has gone up some, and as of late I myself have been seeing, with some people cars that would normally go for about 2k, automatically think they are worth 5k now.

Your best bet would to search on www.craigslist.com. www.collectorcartraderonline.com has some good cars are good prices as well.

I think you will be happy with your Z, when you do get it, there is so much you can do to these cars in stock and not so stock form.

Have fun and enjoy your new hobby :)

Thanks for the welcome guys. I've already been looking on Craigslist and may have found one candidate already.

I have always hears that the running gear on the 240Z is more sports car oriented that the others? Is there any truth to this?

What's the main differences I should be concerned with between the 240, 260, and 280. I have been searching but still can't any one stop shop comparison. Pointers would be helpful. Maybe I'm just searching with the wrong terms.

Adam, welcome to the club , you will find a wealth of information here . You only need to ask. When you do , it is a good practice to mention weather your need is for a 240 or 280 , if this is important to the info. Also if injected or carbed. There are so many varations with these cars and that some have been modified from stock that this is helpful. You might have a look at the tec section as there is some vary useful information there . I suggest that you buy a book '' how to restore your DATSON Z-car by Humble . it is a fisher book . I bought mine on line at Amazon . These cars are some what unique and it helps greatly if and when you do want to do any work on your Z , plus it is good to see how things were assembled . There are some important things and places to look at and for when evaluating a Z and the number one is rust. But you need to be objective and know what is a problem and what is minor. What you are capable to handel your self and to be realistic. These cars are a fantastic ride and you can get swept away easily and then soon find that you have just bought a rust bucket that will cost thousands of dollars to repair. I wish you all the best . Welcome abord and feel free to ask away . Gary :D

Im also from Norcal, my advice is to go to a local meet and check out some of those cars, go to zonc.org they have a calender of norcal meets. Talk to some of those people also and take a look at their Z's, they are the reason I found my 75 280z. Sometimes you might find one for sale their, also since your in California look for CA Z's, most are rust free from what i've found other then below the battery tray. Dont rush into buying one, read up on them, I got lucky on mine. Maybe I will see you at a meet someday with yours. I might go to a at mt.diablo park hosted by zonc oct. 1 and there should be some good 70-83 Z's their.

Santa CruZ , You should be able to find a good early Z in that area . I think I would look more inland and south . Away from the salt air and both warmer and drier climate . But Finding a real good rust free 240Z is becoming harder every day and the prices are going up . It isn't ebay or the 350Z that is doing it , it is mearly the fact that there are fewer cars . Four years ago I could find them in the want adds in the paper on Sunday. I havent seen a 240Z on add for over a year. Not one that was driveable. Or in the bone yard either . Gary
