Athiril Posted September 15, 2005 Share #1 Posted September 15, 2005 Lets see, I live in the Wollongong area, I turned 20 this year, and I want my precious 280ZX already.... patience though... while I slowly gather parts I need, tools, and the car...My current plan:280ZX, I'm saving up and looking around for a 5 speed manual '83 280ZX in good condition, will save around $5k to buy the car alone, I want the body and interior in top notch condition.I have a few parts that I need already... sadly though... I didn't keept the L24 con rods or block... when I had one... as I was going to have some custom rods (pretty much duplicates of L24 rods) made up anyway, can get my uncle to do that. What I do have is a heavy duty exhaust manifold for inline 6 L engines with a T3 size flange for turbocharging, I have a photo of it somewhere...I plan to build a 3098cc single turbo.Have a few sources for an LD28 crank already...I will probably have some pistons made up as well... instead of using 89mm or 90mm KA24 pistons.Have my eyes on a GT-R 4.1:1 R200 LSD as well, have to see if I'd be able to use it or not though, and a 300ZX Turbo transmission.Sound system? that'd be the last thing on my list... (well other than just getting a discman with car kit or basic cd head deck, so I can at least listen to music..).... if I were going to, I wouldn't be having a conventional system, it'd be around a custom HTPC I would build. Unless you have a specific attachment to a ZX. $5K for a zx seems very expensive. Theres a Z on ozdat, its just had all the bodywork and paint done, just needs putting back together, and its around your price range.Sound system: Ipod into an amp and speakers. Then you can just unplug it and take it with you when you leave the car.

Welcome again and have fun

Then you can just unplug it and take it with you when you leave the car. I do have an attachment to a ZX... it's what I want foremost... if I were to get a 280Z, I'd be doing a 3.1 or 3.2 litre mod on triple 45 mm carbs, and high CR. I also seem to have more trouble finding manual 280ZX's... $5k is reasonable for a 2 door registered sports car whose body, paintwork an d interior is in great shape, at that price, I always find the transmission and engine are in great condition too. I found a $5k 280ZX, immaculate body, paint and interior, transmission and engine had been reconditioned not long before... thats what I'm looking for. Ewww ipod... overpriced crap... >.< ... I'm kind of a semi-audiophile... HTPC would be the only way to go.... I want the best quality sound output... there is no portable music player or head deck that could do better than the design I have. The sound system wouldn't be visible either... just a flat small black panel IR receiver for the remote control, perhaps a hidden flip out wide lcd screen (will be wiring and programming myself.... can do this already). Not worried about having a sound system stolen.... I'd be way more upset at having the car stolen or damaged. I'm not getting the actual car yet either.... I'm aquiring a few more parts first, then get the car, then put in the transmission, diff, and clutch plate, finish collection all the parts I want for the engine mod, and hopefully get a spare block and head...
