Posted September 15, 200519 yr comment_138282 a few days ago my clutch master cylinder went out, or thats at least what i think. i would have to pump my clutch a few times and then it started working again for a little while then i would have to pump some more. the next day it got much worse and the pedal feels extremely loose and it doesnt matter how much i pump it, it wont work anymore. i think its my master cylinder, how can i be sure though? also, do i need any special tools for this operation or just socket wrenches? thanksmarc Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/17276-another-clutch-problem/ Share on other sites
September 16, 200519 yr comment_138285 Usually people replace both the master and slave cylinder together. It's a good idea. You can usually tell which one is bad by pulling back the rubber cover at the end of either cylinder. The one that is bad will leak brake fluid. September 16, 200519 yr Author comment_138293 the resevoir for the master cylinder was a little low on fluid so i added some more and continued to pump more but it still wouldnt work, does that signal anything? September 16, 200519 yr comment_138295 Yes, it means it's leaking. Either under the car at the slave cylinder or inside the car at the back end of the master cylinder. Like previously mentioned replace them both. Use a flare nut wrench so you don't strip the flare nut. September 16, 200519 yr comment_138330 I would say it is the slave corroded before I would say anything is wrong with the master. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/17276-another-clutch-problem/#findComment-138330 Share on other sites
