Drive Shaft

Hi,

I have replaced my rear end on my 70 with a R200. I was in the process of restoring the drive shaft i bought for it and found out it was not servicable. Evidently the u-joints cant be replaced. Does anyone know of what year shaft i need to look for that can be serviced of if there is a place to buy aftermarket or custom. If anyone has one for sale, i would be interested.

Thanks

Mark

I am being told that it is "Non-servicable" by the drive shaft shop. Victoria British has 1975-1978 as not replacable in their catalog. This is why i am looking for a replacement shaft

Take your driveshaft to a shop that services driveshafts. They can remove the current u-joints and install ones that can be serviced. No need to buy a new d/s.

Thanks for the advice. Anyone you have used or recommend?

If you google custom Driveshaft, you will find a lot of places that will make a shaft for you. You can even send them the one you have, and they will make a new one just like it but with serviceable u-joints.

My 240Z has a 280Z five speed so I use 280Z drive shaft (I'm not sure what rear end I have)

The drive shaft in the car is serviceable(I have changed the u joints twice)

The clips that hold the cups in place are on the inside.

My drive shaft is beat up and looks like it may have come loose in the past.

I went to pick n pull and found a drive shaft $31. (the u joints are bad )

When I cleaned this one around the u joints i could not find any clips holding the cups. and noticed the cups seem to held in the yoke by a ring that is pressed into place. this one is not serviceable.

I am going to a bigger pick n pull to trade that one in (if I can find one)

I will post new info if I get it.

If not I will pay for new one.

Thanks. I believe using the R200 rear, the shaft is a different size. So you would need to make sure it is going into a R200. Evedently speaking with my buddy, the u-joints on the one i have dont have the clips, they are "broached" in which makes the shaft "non-servicable". If i can get a shaft that can be restored and fit the R200, i will be happy to buy it.
