This is why I speed!

As Gary and so many others have said, Dont do it! Im 17 years old and i have more since then that!

You are trusting a 30+ year old car. Yes its being restored, But how do you know all the welds will hold?

I just hope when you do crash you are the only one involved. I hope their is somebody near enough to get you help.

Not wishing it on you but it will happen eventually

Chris, it looks like you have one 17 year old for and one against. But from my 55 year old point of view, and I have been upside down before at 23 yrs old, just make sure that you take all the precautions necessary. It's still not completely within your control and that's the one thing you need to keep in mind. I wouldn't do it. But I'm not so hypocritical as to say that you shouldn't. Looks like it's pretty much set in your mind. I just wish that back then someone would have explained the pros and cons of speed to me, although they really shouldn't have had to. I guess it's really your call, regardless of what others say and that's what I meant in my earlier post when I said "dream on, rock on."

Wish I understood Japanese.

I don't really understand what the point of going that speed is? Is it bragging rights? Nothing can be gained by going that speed. We all test our cars at one point or another, but you have a desire to do something so incredibly dangerous. I feel you are looking at the safety factor in such a blind manner. You can't predict what is going to happen. Isn't that a farm in your picture?

Unfortunately, you have to learn some things for yourself. No matter how many times people tell you not to do something...we usually do them anyway.

You really need to consider the fact that you WILL, regardless of how you perceive your homes roads, be putting other people's lives in danger at one point or another.

I know a girl who is from Iowa who said the roads are just as you describe. She said she used to read books while driving for stretches of an hour and not ever see another car on the road.

Even if you wrecked and survived and nobody died...think about the investment lost on your vehicle that you are restoring. All the time, labor, money, thought and love poured into her....

You had said in the other thread on this that the roads where you are are not only straight but did not have any place for deer or other animals to hide. I see thousands of p[laces for animals to pop out of. Plus there are houses with driveways and people and children, ect... Here in MT we have trully flat roads where there is not any houses and you can see to the horizion and there are not nearly as many hiding spots for animals but they still have a habit of poping out of no where. Eventually you will end up dead and possibably others with you.

I know I said that, this is not that road, that one is just about 10 miles east of this pic!!! and that isn't a house it is a barn and you can't pull in to the drive way there isn't one! you have to go a few miles up and then double back, it is just a bunch of grain bins!! and don't get me wrong guys I ABSOLUTELY DON'T SPEED, WHEN ANYONE BESIDES ME IS WITH IN A FEW MILES. I CHECK AND RECHECK AND HAVE MY SPOTTERS CHECK AND RECHECK. I posted this not only because you could speed on it if you wanted but, to show you guys where I live and what it looks like. I thought it was a nice pic. I will try to not post anymore of these pics to tempt you to respond!!!!

Stephen, am I the 17 year old that is defending speeding?

I'll have to admit that I have gone out and driven my car hard, over the limit, I think alot of us have. Though speeding is a danger, I do make precautions. I make sure that I know the roads very well before I drive, and I always make it a point to drive early on a sunday or saturday.

To be honest though, after reading what others have said, I'm much less inclined to drive in dangerous situations.

When you post a picture under "this is why i speed" you are sure to get a response that is negative. Judging from the last thread on speeding you should have know people would have opinions on the subject. If you want us to see the landscape where you live post the picture as such.

I'm all for going 7-10 miles over the speed limit as applicable. If you're doing that then more power to ya. If you're trying to push 120-130+ in your Z on a deserted stretch of highway eventually something you didn't plan for will get you.

Enjoy the ride, if you kill yourself you were probably smiling a few seconds before the end. If you kill someone else in the process, there's a corresponding price to be paid.

Keep posting the pics, I like seeing pictures of wide open space with two lane blacktop to drive on, and I will speed as stated above without much hesitation.

if i had that road i would speed too. I see both sides of this. I drive the 300 hard. im talking very hard. there is no day i dont pull the benz up around 6000rpm. i admit my foot is very heavy. But i take extreme caution. I make sure i know the area and roads very well. i also try to do it when no one is around. Of corse there is always the temptation of a rice burner coming up to u and reving the wizz out of his 4 banger and its on. I think there is a right time to speed and a wrong time to speed. In this case with an empty road like that, i think its excellent. Im sure cremmenga knows what the possibilitys of getting hurt are. i think most people who speed know that consequences.

SavannahZ, the i dont think people speed for bragging rights. Half the time no one is around to see anyway. I know i dont speed for that reason. What can be gained by going that speed? For me, its the thrill. its a really good feeling when u are by yourself and a car makes u smile when no one around to see. For some it may not take speeding, just crusing can do that for some. For others Thats what they need to do.

Come on now. Think back to when u guys were younger (for some that may be a really long time ago LOL jk!!!). Most cant say they didnt test the possibilities of they;re car and never go over the speed limit. Just something to think about before u post a reply.
