Howdo, all?

Figured I'd come say hi in here as well. Just purchased what would be my 2nd and 3rd 280z cars. The first I owned a decade ago when I was a young one, sold it. Now I'm the proud owner of two 1977 280z's. They're 'fixer uppers', I hope to have two beautiful cars by the time I'm done, but I'm in no hurry :)

Uh, lesse, the cars are at a friends place in WA for the moment. I'll be working on them there until one is road-worthy. I'm in Montana, which is where the cars will eventually be! Glad to see you're all helpful, hopefully I can contribute some good info/advice sometime in the near future as well.

One's red, one's blue.

See you in the forums.

Thanks for the welcome !

I've uploaded all the pics I have to the Member's Gallery. They all say 'waiting approval' or something like that right now, though. You may notice I have pics of my red one but not of the blue Z. (I really need to name them so I don't have to call them by their color, LOL)

The red Z has a factory 8 track in 'er. Red Z used to be brown, Blue Z used to be silver. The blue Z is in a bit worse shape then the red. They both need lovin'. Rust is about average. The more I read on these boards, the more scared I get!

The red Z runs like a top. The fuel rail was like a siv, spewing gas. I've replaced all the fuel lines and injector o-rings now and she runs great.

The blue one acts like its 180degrees out of time. The PO claims the engine was rebuilt then the car sat. I think it was just the head that got some attention. In any case it now runs like poo. Perhaps its an old gas problem, I need to tear into it and find out. It'll start and run, but the longer it runs the more fuel loads up until eventually it just floods.

Currently my plan of attack is:

Drop:

5speed, driveline from blue Z

4speed, driveline from red Z

Install:

new clutch in red Z

5speed, driveline from blue Z into Red Z

look into machining the flywheel before switching trannies. If I can find a good place in Spokane, WA to do this I'll probably get them both done.

Maintain:

inspect rear axle and diff. Replace fluids, etc, in both transmission and differential.

Then:

Red Z becomes daily driver while I make the blue Z happier. Starting with tranny I've already removed, replacing driveline (the red Z's driveline shakes while accelerating which is why I'm just switchin' em out, as I understand the Ujoints aren't replaceable?). Eventually rebuild engine/tranny/anything else that needs it/then body work, paint, interior. Make the blue z my driver and start restoring the red z.

Light at the end o' the tunnel:

2 beautiful Z cars. I don't intend on showing them or anything, nor do I have ambitions of V8'ing or hybriding them (yet, maybe in the future). I basically want one as a daily driver then perhaps I'll make the other an SCCA driver with a few improvements in horse/torque and handling, or something. I'm guessing it will take a few years to get near the end, and that it will never really end. Should be fun getting there! LOL

Anyway, enough of a novel from me tonight. Back to reading the forums.
