xray Posted October 2, 2005 Share #2 Posted October 2, 2005 My impressions are that if the edges are serge-bound and it's a loop pile, (original specs) they are all about the same. I think (IIRC) that all have some color fade issues. I'll probably go with Classic Datsun Motorsports (just to spread the wealth a bit between VB, MSA, CDM, etc.)Good luck,Steve
Montezuma Posted September 30, 2007 Share #3 Posted September 30, 2007 A few months ago I purchased a carpet kit from MSA for a 78Z from MSA. Today I finally got around to doing the install...let me tell you I HATE THE KIT:sick:. It is a total piece of crap. Of course it is going back. I want a kit that is more like the original. I want it with the cut outs for the seat belts the shifter etc... I don't want to have to cut holes for all this. Please give me some solid advice on where I going to get such a quality kit. I got a call out to Les at Classic Datsun. I know he can supply one for a 240 but the 280 is what I am working on.
dade280 Posted September 30, 2007 Share #4 Posted September 30, 2007 I ripped out my carpet 2 weeks ago. Also 77 280z. Did you have shag carpeting like i did? Mine was originally black but turned white and was all flaky ugh. I plan on makin my own carpeting as it was a real simple layout. Might just leave it metal tho. Montezuma Posted September 30, 2007 Share #5 Posted September 30, 2007 The carpet I removed was real nice and thick. I was dry rotted from sitting for 10 years....besides while it was stored outside a few furry friends made it home...so who knows how much rat pee was there too. xray Posted September 30, 2007 Share #6 Posted September 30, 2007 I purchased the carpet from CDM recently. Well made, with thick padding, but cut pile...a big no-no for me. Still looking for good loop pile carpet. Banzai Motorworks advertises a carpet kit, so I may give him a call about a sample or something...Steve
Arne Posted October 1, 2007 Share #7 Posted October 1, 2007 I've been planning on the loop kit from Datsun Spirit. From comments that Eiji has made to me, I suspect that Banzai sells the same kit. I probably won't get around to this for several months, though.
ktm Posted October 1, 2007 Share #8 Posted October 1, 2007 I have the MSA kit in my car, but I ripped out the thin, flimsy padding and added a nice, heavy 6 lb/sq ft padding. I also used the same padding on my tranny tunnel trim. It really changes the carpet.

I almost forgot about Datsun Spirit's products. They are little pricey but they are OEM looking. I will see if Les sells the same product. I know he is more a 240 guy but still needs to make some money.
scotts77z Posted October 1, 2007 Share #10 Posted October 1, 2007 You can also try www.camarosandclassics.comThey have many different applicationsI ordered from them last year. Good pricing at $195.45 delivered and good quality molded to fit the car including the back tray area. Has a dense juite padding. I was very pleased. dade280 Posted October 1, 2007 Share #11 Posted October 1, 2007 Whats the padding used for. If i add carpeting i wanted to keep the padding out. Or is it needed for something.
EScanlon Posted October 1, 2007 Share #12 Posted October 1, 2007 You might also look at Too Intense Restoration.Troy Thacker has been at this for years and I've not heard any complaints about his carpet sets. He lists all of the years as well as Cut or Loop style.http://www.datsunrestore.com/catalog.htmlFWIWE
