gator Posted October 3, 2005 Share #1 Posted October 3, 2005 I just want to ask a silly question .. but I would like to be sure about this .. Are the doors of a 71 240 the same as doors from a 77 280 ? Can I swap them ? I have a parts car (71 240) and am using some of its parts from my 77 280 . If i can I may restore the doors from my 240 and then swap them onto my 280 without being without doors for a lenght of time. The 280 is my driver. Thanks ..B
Fun_in_my_z Posted October 3, 2005 Share #2 Posted October 3, 2005 You Will have to redrill your holes so the panels will go back on. But They will fit

SteveJ Posted October 3, 2005 Share #5 Posted October 3, 2005 IIRC, there are differences in the strikers between the early Zs and the late Zs. I'm not sure when the change happened.

SteveJ Posted October 3, 2005 Share #7 Posted October 3, 2005 Mid year on the 74 260z. Okay, you made me research it. According to this post: http://www.zcar.com/forums/read.php?f=1&i=587619&t=587615, it was in 76. (Edit: Just to clarify, the post I linked specifically talks about windows interchanging, but I believe the author implied that the latching hardware changed at the same time.) So, who is going to the next big meet to research and document the answer?
sblake01 Posted October 3, 2005 Share #8 Posted October 3, 2005 I just assumed the doors changed when they went to the big bumpers. The late 74 260 was basically a 280 without the fuel injection so I thought that's would be when they changed the doors. I'll do some checking next time I'm in the junkyard. matria Posted October 3, 2005 Share #9 Posted October 3, 2005 IIRC, the doors are basiclly the same 1971-1976. Some changes to the interior door panel, changing the armrest, opening mech. attachment and different intrusion protection inside the door. The 77 & 78 doors had the door lock pull moved about 3" forward and the latch mech was changed. The 77 & 78 will not work on an earlier Z without much time and expense. So to summarize, if I need to replace the doors on my early '71 (and I may need to), I can use later doors (with minor mods) as long as they have the same type door striker. Probably up through '76, subject to verification. Sound right?

Oh, and I think you have to go to the pick and pull on an odd Tuesday with a full moon to ensure full compatibility.
