My father had this thing called a rust preventer on his 1984 Alfa Spider and it worked ..... but he also took very good care of the car so who knows if it actually did anything?

My question is, do these things actually work, or is it a bit of a sham?

The fact that in the last 5 years they've increased in price by about 500% makes me think that they do work. IF they do work, I will certainly buy one for my Z (some surface rust is evident)

Perhaps some of you have had some first hand experience?

I haven't tried the electric or 'electrolysis' or 'ion' system rust preventers either...I always figured they were snake oil. They were always sold in JCWhitney and, well...'nuf said.

On that note, I have been using the NAPA brand 'rust treatment'. Comes in a blue can and costs WAY less ($5) than por-15 and comes in a spray can, which is handy. IMO, it works really good.
