I'll never complain about peak hour traffic again.

It was frightening enough to travel on the wrong side of the road but being caught up in 8 lanes of traffic on a 6 lane road with everyone blasting their horns to tell everyone else to get out of their way was so bloody terrifying I very nearly needed a change of underpants.

You were dead right mate. Both places are great to visit as a tourist,(but I wouldn't want to live there).

Egypt can best be described with just one word ... AWESOME. You can read books, look at pics, watch documentaries but to actually reach out and TOUCH a pyramid or stand inside a Temple is, ..... well, .... AWESOME.

Our arrival at Istanbul in Turkey really blew me away. I didn't realise that Australians were so highly regarded there. As you can imagine, security is VERY tight wherever you go. Well, .. there we were, lined up to go through customs. Everyone's shoving their luggage through the X ray machines, emptying pockets, removing watches, belt buckles etc, (they made one lady take her shoes off because they had metal buckles on them), and then stepping through the metal detectors.

There were about thirty people in front of us. Along comes a Customs officer checking pass ports. He took one look at mine and said, in a very loud voice, "AUSTRALIANS? ... AUSTRALIANS? ... GO THROUGH, NO CHECK, NO CHECK" and ushered us out of the crowd, straight through without even our luggage being checked.

At Gallipoli, when I mentioned to the guide that my Grandfather landed at ANZAC Cove, he couldn't do enough for me. Took us to every memorial and shrine, even the Turkish one. Another Turk there commented in broken english that his Grandfather might have traded shots with mine.

That's enough for now, gotta check out the threads to see what I've missed out on.
