J P D Posted October 7, 2005 Share #1 Posted October 7, 2005 Hey, just wonder if anyone near Chicago Illinois has a rotisserie they want to sell or rent to me. If not i guess i will have to make my own but figured it would be easier to get a used one. Thanks

J P D Posted October 7, 2005 Author Share #4 Posted October 7, 2005 Thanks for the replies, I was hoping to get a great deal on a used one from someone here that built one themselves, not someone making them for business purpose. I cant justify the cost of those. I guess i'll just build one myself, I was only lookin to save some time buying one used but not for those prices. thanks

symon Posted October 12, 2005 Share #7 Posted October 12, 2005 Hi JPD,I had a similiar problem that I wanted one for just one car. I used 2 engine stands and produced some brackets to bolt them on to the car. I have included some photos for your amusement.Symon
J P D Posted October 12, 2005 Author Share #8 Posted October 12, 2005 Hey Symon, I dont see any pics, but would be interested in seeing what you have come up with. I have thought of using some engine stands, in fact I know 2 ppl I can borrow them from. But I decided against doing that and stoped by a local steel yard and picked up some metal. Gonna run the 220 to the garage this weekend and I should have my compressor and welding stuff hooked up and ready to go. I contacted Kmack and he said he was not making rotisseries anymore due to a recent move and new job.

ShadeTree Z Posted October 13, 2005 Share #10 Posted October 13, 2005 While we're on the topic of rotisseries, I found this one made with three engine stands, (the third used for the additional steel to make the uprights taller). I think I would triangulate the uprights and use a single tube for the connecting piece at the bottom, but all in all a nice clean set up for about $120Can (what's that, $100US?) Does anyone have an opinion on its design. The link for the rotisserie is:http://www.m38jeepproject.com/Body%20Work%202.htmlBTW this is my first post, I have been a long time lurcher while I have been building my garage for my restoration. Garage is done and I'm ready to start picking all of your brains for hints and pointers to get this thing running!
jmortensen Posted October 13, 2005 Share #11 Posted October 13, 2005 I just bought 2 engine stands just like the ones you had for that exact purpose. I can't see if you extended height of the posts. On a Z I understand the pivot needs to be ~37 inches off the ground, I think mine stands 29" straight out of the box. What I didn't see is how you straightened the post. Looks like you cut it right above the bottom where it's welded on at an angle and straightened it there. But then is that about a foot of extra height you added in there? Mine need 8" more height. My plan was to cut the TOP of the pivot off and weld it back on straight, then make "legs" for the stands that would lift them up 8".
ShadeTree Z Posted October 13, 2005 Share #12 Posted October 13, 2005 I don't want to mislead anyone. The website that I posted previously is not mine; and I am in no way associated with it. I just posted the link as an example of a rotisserie that I liked and was planning to emulate for myself. I originally bought two stands (still in the box) until I saw what this guy did buying the third engine stand for the additional steel, to lengthen the uprights, etc... and making the rotisserie nice and neat, and professional looking. My restoration will take a couple of years... and in my humble opinion having a rotisserie (or any tool for that matter) that works well and looks good (read: looks like I know what I'm doing) is important because it will be in use for a couple of years, and I will have to look at it every time I go into the garage.Sorry if I mislead.
