May 3, 200717 yr comment_208268 the next thing that will be resurrected will be adding MOTH BALLS to the gas tank. That was tried in the late '50 . July 13, 200717 yr comment_214988 I recently saw an episode of Mythbusters where they tested acetone in gas and their results show that it actually decreased gas mileage. July 13, 200717 yr comment_215004 It won't decrease mileage in the amount referred to earlier. It won't have a measurable effect at all. For anyone still convinced that acetone does work, I'd like to offer YOU my new medicine which I'm just bringing to market. It's called Plessybeaux, and it will instantly cure fever, headache, nasal congestion, gonorrhea, ingrown toe nails, acne, diabetes, male pattern baldness, ovarian cysts, loose stools, chlamydia, rhumatism, yellow fever, dengue fever, psoriasis, clubbed feet, menstrual cramps, dandruff, scoliosis, and itchy watery eyes. This is your chance to outsmart the medical community. They don't WANT you to know about Plessybeaux, but you're too smart for them. The naturally occuring vine we use to produce Plessybeaux grows deep in the heart of the Amazon rainforest, where nature's untapped resources have held the cure to all of these diseases and ailments for millenia. Choose from "Red Vines" or "Black Vines". Your choice, but either runs $5000 for a box of about 20 amazing vines filled with natural healing goodness. A bargain when compared a lifetime of suffering and kowtowing to the corrupt medical system that just wants to treat symptoms and not cure diseases. This product has not been tested or approved by the FDA Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/17528-acetone-in-your-gas/?&page=5#findComment-215004 Share on other sites
July 13, 200717 yr comment_215012 Wow, having read all of this, I can reach only one conclusion; it's getting deep. My left arm is fully extended above my head upon reaching this point in this thread. I'm trying to save my watch. But really, when it comes to cars+engine size+driving habits+all the other variables, it is what it is. If your car is rated at 24MPG, that's what it is. To sell a car that's paid for but gets 17MPG to buy a new car that gets 34MPG, along with a $400+ car payments doesn't make any sense either.:stupid: My daily driver is a 2002 Forester rated at 27MPG Hwy. If I get 25.5MPG, I'm grateful. Here's what I know works for me: 1. Tire pressure inflated to max rating for the tire. 2. K&N air filter. 3. No hot rodding. (no smart remarks about my Subaru) 4. Use cruise control when possible. 5. fresh spark plugs every 10K miles. 6. Mobile 1 every 5K miles. Now you guys play nice and for Pete's sake, don't put mothballs in your gas tank.:lick: Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/17528-acetone-in-your-gas/?&page=5#findComment-215012 Share on other sites

July 14, 200717 yr comment_215043 I really like snopes, but that was the worst effort at proving something false I've seen in a while. The acetone thing is obviously BS, but if they had access to a properly conducted test as they stated, they should have cited it and the results. Then they claim that acetone is a solvent and can damage the rubber components of the fuel system. In the proposed quantity??? I don't think so. I like the bit at the end though, that warns you that paint thinner can damage your paint. Gee, thanks for the warning. I checked, and snopes has no articles about octane booster, which is made from Xylene and Tolulene, which are... you guessed it... solvents and paint thinners.
