October 8, 200519 yr comment_140971 I haven't been too close to a coyote myself, so not sure if it is real or not. What do you think? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/17540-wild-coyote/#findComment-140971 Share on other sites
October 8, 200519 yr comment_140974 I've been very close to coyotes, they are generally more afraid of you than you need be of them -- unless they were rabid, or have lost their sense of fear of man because they've been living off people's garbage in urban areas. I've watched them stalking cattle, but it looked more like a study in tactics than something they were actually going foward with. Maybe take a stray calf or wounded cow, but I've never seen it. I've been on a rural road before with groups of cayotes on both sides, some in the valley and some on a hillside, calling out, howling and yipping back and forth to each other. Kind of cool, somewhat creepy -- if you answer back with your best coyote impression they'll often reply. Where I used to live you had to keep an eye on your dogs as coyotes will try and lure your pet to them and then you can lose your animal -- especially if they are still a pup. Coyotes are more likely to eat a wounded animal or mice and rabbits. Statement of the obvious follows: Overall I think the videos is more for the jump factor. October 9, 200519 yr comment_141011 Coyotes are harmless. I used to stay with a friend out on his step dads wheat farm when I was young. You could hear them all the time. My friend and I usually slept outside. We used to get 30-50 bucks a pelt. Still see them alot. Fun to chase, hard to find if they don't want to be found. I've seen them chase cows and horses but never seen them actually kill a large animal. Always looked more like play. They will eat a dog right off its chain though. October 9, 200519 yr comment_141018 I had a coyote in my front yard a few weeks back. Trotted of into the woods. It was a pretty animal -- sort of a feral, very slim and well muscled German Shepherd. I've heard nothing about them being anything but shy, but I certainly wouldn't have wanted to meet one on a trail in the woods.
