Posted October 12, 200519 yr comment_141511 Hello I just purchased a 9/70 HLS30-10031 white 240z last weekend. She has a very thick stack of records from 1970-2003 with only 3 owners not including me. She has her origional white paint with no body damage other than door dings. NO RUST through spots and only minor surface rust where the paint has worn away. With only 130k with a numbers matching motor she will be a great resto/driver prodject. I had to tow her home due to the previous owner connecting a battery backwards. I get no spark but I am trying to figure out the electronic ignition and dist. set up now. October 12, 200519 yr comment_141515 Welcome! The Z looks good. I forget what gets damaged when a battery is hooked up backwards. It seem to me we discussed that in a thread sometime ago. October 13, 200519 yr comment_141521 Welcome to the club. take a look at the fuseable link . It's the white/red wire connected to the starter. At least it is a beginning . Good luck . October 13, 200519 yr comment_141522 If it's the fusible link that is damaged, the starter motor won't spin when you try to crank it. The diodes in the alternator can get damaged when someone attempts a backwards jump start.240Z's didn't come with electronic ignition. Do you know what kind of ignition was added to your car? October 13, 200519 yr Author comment_141530 The starter works but no spark at the plug. It has a magnetic pick up dist. with the numbers D6F4-03 7303 22100 N4301 marked on the side. It has vaccum advance and the wrong timing plate/base? The spark box is mounted on the firewall with HITACHI E12-12A marked on it. It has a 8140 Accel 12v Super stock coil. The pevious owner said his brother put it on so I assume it's installed wrong or dont work? Here are some pic's of them maybe someone can identify them and sugjest the correct instalation or some test procedure.
