mull Posted October 17, 2005 Share #1 Posted October 17, 2005 Who makes these flares - if they're not custom made for this car?
zguitar71 Posted October 17, 2005 Share #2 Posted October 17, 2005 They look like the flares you can get from MSA.
MarkDixon Posted October 17, 2005 Share #3 Posted October 17, 2005 I agree. MSA street flares. That is also a California wing on the back.I like the look of the flares and the wing, but his back tires are so big the rear is too far off the ground. It looks as if he has lifted the car as well. Why??? I thought the idea was to get your car as close to the ground as you could. He even has a rear skirt. Why put a skirt on if your going to jack your car up like that?

Why put a skirt on if your going to jack your car up like that?Looks like it has a solid rear axle in it, and drag slicks are tall because the sidewall needs to flex to hook up. I think both of those things would lift the back end. Looks like the aero kit is more for show on this one.
Steve Parmley Posted October 17, 2005 Share #5 Posted October 17, 2005 There are a couple of pics in my gallery of my green car with the MSA "street flares" just riveted on. http://www.classiczcars.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=2897&cat=500&page=
Ron Carter Posted October 17, 2005 Share #6 Posted October 17, 2005 The flares look like a copy of the C production flares run on Z cars in the mid 70's.BTW nice car Steve! looks like fun!

I salute you! That car is wicked... ! :knockedou However, the flares on your green 240z look much wider than the ones on the black in my first post. Anyway - I love the flares on the green one so I'll probably look to get something similar. How wide are the rims/slicks in your picture? :surprised Thanks for all replies so far! Not sure if anyone's hit the spot yet tho?
jmortensen Posted October 17, 2005 Share #8 Posted October 17, 2005 Steve's flares are attached to the outside of the body. Usually they are installed on the inside of the body, which is going to make the flare 1/2" narrower then they are blended in, making them appear even narrower. The original pic really looks like the MSA flare to me.
Steve Parmley Posted October 17, 2005 Share #9 Posted October 17, 2005 Some of the pictures of C production 70's racers had similar flares in the rear but I never have seen the fronts bubble out like mine. They usually had a scooped out, not bubble curve. I did not take the time to "pretty" them on. I had 1/2 inch wheel spacers in the front to help turn in. For clearance I had to file off the lip on the flare for clearance. The wheels are 15x8 and the tires are 23x9x15 cantilever slicks designed to actually fit a 7 inch wide wheel. Another source that 2 Fresno autocrossers use is MAS Racing Products flares and look like the street flares I have. They're in St. Paul MN 651-644-6811. A more modern look and expensive look that fits tires just as wide can be found at ztrix.com called the Subtle Z. Check this thread out for pictures taken by member jmark of this kit and those tires on an SCCA E Production racecar.http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18314&page=1Oh thanks Ron. The green car was my daily driver I turned into an FP car because my project car was taking so long. I am reassembling it as we speak with less weight and more suspension work . And yes my main project, the orange car is still taking too long.......time, money, kids, laziness and old age.
