May 27, 200222 yr comment_7820 For 4-cyl L series engines. Like in dimes and 210's and stuff.Like: 1600, 2000, 2400, 2800, etc...steve77 Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/1766-what-l-series-is-this/#findComment-7820 Share on other sites
May 27, 200222 yr Author comment_7824 Is becuase the deck high with the L28 crank and the L16 rods is perfect! to fit into an L24 engine and increase displacement fromstock L24 - 2393L24 with L28 crank L16 rods L24 pistons HKS 1mm Head gasket - 2565compression L24 E88 head - 8.76 : 1 with above - 9.28:1hows that? May 27, 200222 yr comment_7826 if you want even more compression put an E31 head on it. Personally...i would feel more comfortable overboring the engine before i start throwing in a whole bunch of different parts, just my opinion... May 27, 200222 yr comment_7827 Hey wish, where is the calqlater? on-line? I have just used zgarage.Where are the CC's of the heads at? I can't find it all of a sudden. I saw it somewhere...steve77 Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/1766-what-l-series-is-this/#findComment-7827 Share on other sites
May 28, 200222 yr comment_7836 The calculator should be in the downloads section. That's where I got it from anyway. Lot of fun to play with when there's nuttin' else to do. BTW, I wouldn't think the 4 cylinder L series rods would be anywhere near strong enough to put in the L-24 thru L-28. Not only that but you would run into piston problems. Not sure if the wrist pin is the same on all L series or not. May 28, 200222 yr comment_7839 Hi guys in reading your posts, the L-16 and the L-24 rods are one in the same. Datsun went to bigger rod cap bolts on them in 72.So the program has a flaw in it.The SSS L-16 is an L-24 with two cylinders cut off.The L-18 and L-26/L-28 rods are the same. What I never understood is, why did Datsun make the L-26 with a 240 bore and an L-28 stroke when they could have made one with an L-28 bore and L-24 stroke.I'd kinda be like a 302 chevy or ford. 240 Al Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/1766-what-l-series-is-this/#findComment-7839 Share on other sites
May 28, 200222 yr Author comment_7840 what is actually involved in over-boring an engine?Im not talkin bout just throwin stuff in, im trying to work stuff out, see what i can do to increase the power of the engine, and i like the fact that it probably hasn't been done the L28 crank and rods in the L24.Matt Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/1766-what-l-series-is-this/#findComment-7840 Share on other sites
May 28, 200222 yr comment_7841 over-boring the engine is a pretty simple task done at an automotive machine shop. All they do is mill off the desired amount off the cylinders, then all you need is bigger pistons i believe Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/1766-what-l-series-is-this/#findComment-7841 Share on other sites
May 28, 200222 yr Author comment_7842 if you have the calculator check this out....L24 block Ld28 crank L28 rod L28 flat pistons E31 headthis leaves the deck height at 2.030mmadd a 2mm head gasket, your at .030 mm ( calculator doesn't figure for head gasket deck height )check out the compression and displacment...i know 11.5 is highnow, flip the head to an E88...and fly cut the pistons .5still 2.7Litre's displacment, but now the compression is at a workable 10.41 : 1 =)what do you think?Matt Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/1766-what-l-series-is-this/#findComment-7842 Share on other sites
May 28, 200222 yr comment_7844 ive heard of boring a L24 out to 2.8L and putting a E31 head on...that gives you good displacement and very good compression....10.1 is really pushing standard pump gasoline's limit Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/1766-what-l-series-is-this/#findComment-7844 Share on other sites
May 28, 200222 yr comment_7858 The 240 block/bore and the L-28 crank has been done that was the 260Z motor. It's the reverse that datsun didn't make 280 bore with a 240 stroke. The compression ratio would be more within reason. 240 Al Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/1766-what-l-series-is-this/#findComment-7858 Share on other sites
