Hey guys, just picked up my first 240z yesterday. Loving every minute of driving it. My first Z was a 88 Turbo, but this Z is completely different in my opinion. Gets a lotta looks too. I was in Addison, and a guy jumps out of his Navigator, and shouts OMG that is Badaxx! Needless to say, he scared the poop out of me! He was from Calif., and hadn't seen one in forever he said. But anyway, I will be posting pics very soon. I should have it up and running by this weekend, just in time to cruise! The question I had is regarding the Vin, and was wondering what the difference was between the Series 1,2,3.

My VIN is HLS3022541. Also, not sure if anyone knows of a Marty Johnson, but he was the previous owner, before selling it to the sellers i purchased it from in Greenville. Thanks for any info you may be able to provide. By the way, it is a 71. Thanks again & hope to hear from you soon.

Congratulations on your purchase. Take a couple of minutes to go to Zhome and register her VIN for future reference.

Here's the link for all of you who may not have yet registered your Z's:

This link is for "The Classic 240 Z Owners Register " AND "The Classic 240 Z Owners Register - HS Series Right Hand Drive":

This link is for "The Original Owners' 240 Z Register" (these owners purchased their 240Z's new in 1970, 71, 72 or 73 - and have kept them ever since) :

Various other Registers there as well, so check them out.

To answer one of your questions - a '71 with a VIN of 22541 should be what many call a Series II. Series I cars were '70 and very early '71 models (like my '71, VIN 12746, build date 10/70). The primary differences between Series I and II are in how the interior is vented. Series I has vents in the hatch just under the window, Series II (and later) have vents under the Z emblem just behind the rear quarter windows.

While some people prefer the Series I, to me it was just luck of the draw. I'd have taken a later '71 or '72 instead, if that was the best I could find at the time.
