Posted October 23, 200519 yr comment_142709 I think there may be a set of very early SU carbs on eBay with the round float bowl covers. Didn't these come on the 69-70 cars? It's hard to tell from the pictures but I thought I'd post a link here in case anyone is looking.eBay Item #4583649272 Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/17702-early-su-carbs-on-ebay/ Share on other sites

October 23, 200519 yr comment_142730 He's got lots of 240 stuff up for sale. Seals, bushings, chrome, rocker arms. Might be something there someone needs. October 23, 200519 yr comment_142733 water pipe on that carb/intake auction looks bent, missing the center linkage between the carbs also. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/17702-early-su-carbs-on-ebay/#findComment-142733 Share on other sites
October 23, 200519 yr comment_142755 Those look like 4 screw bowls. Aren't those 70 and earlier? Or 71 & earlier? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/17702-early-su-carbs-on-ebay/#findComment-142755 Share on other sites
October 24, 200519 yr comment_142802 My 71 came with 4 screw bowls, I have no idea if they were original however. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/17702-early-su-carbs-on-ebay/#findComment-142802 Share on other sites
October 24, 200519 yr comment_142809 70s with Vins <7500? or so had carby w/funny float bowl cover. But easiest ID "early 70" is the lack of drain for the bowl.... October 24, 200519 yr comment_142838 Took the words right outa my mouth. That's why I'm interested in these. So the earliest SUs were the ones WITHOUT the float drains? If so, the set I acquired for #12746 are the early ones. My car is not going to be anything special, I just wanted SUs on it instead of the hack-job injection that's on it now. Maybe I should sell my drain-less carbs and buy a different set that's less rare? October 24, 200519 yr comment_142849 I always feel a little spooky talking about auctions I'm interested in. The carbs on 26th and 27th do not have drain plugs in the front of the float bowls. The float bowl caps are 4-screw as are the dashpots. I don't know if these are roadster type carbs. It wouldn't surprise me. There may be some other differences - vent hoses. I'm noticing the eBay carbs are missing the fuel line attachment pieces.I'm planning to send my carbs off to Z-Therapy when the time comes. I expect to pay around a grand for each car to have them refurbish everything including the air filters. When doing something like this, it is always nice to send extra parts and pieces. That's why I'm interested. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/17702-early-su-carbs-on-ebay/#findComment-142849 Share on other sites
October 24, 200519 yr comment_142862 Only having the carbs off #215 to compare to, I am trying to following some of this to make sure that I probably have the original carbs (with this car, you never know!). Attached is a pic of the left carb. It is a 4-screw, so that's good, but what are "drain plugs in the front of the float bowls"? Do I not know what we're talking about because they aren't here? And that's good (for being early), right? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/17702-early-su-carbs-on-ebay/#findComment-142862 Share on other sites
