Yeah the ones that have the continuous body-bed are called "utes". They were never available in the US unfortunately but still have a big following in Japan, Oz and New Zealand. Actually Nissan is still making a ute called the "1400 Bakkie" in South Africa.

Since you guys are talking old Datsun trucks have a look at this one:

His isn't anything special looking at the photos. Here's a shot of my 64. Michael, that's the truck I spoke of in my earlier post. It's a modern day version of the 'Sunny' and it's still being produced.

There are a "truck load" of these little utes here in NZ, most in sheds getting rebuild etc - you can still buy them new in South Africa. See Nissan South Africa Website select vechiles and pick 1400 Bakkie from the drop down list. The ones here were sold throughtout the late 70's until mid 80's originally fitted with the A12 (aka Datsun B110, B210 (honeybee),B310 engines) however these days most are getting repowered with all different engines. Common is the Mazda 13B, Nissan CA18DET, FJ20, FJ20ET, SR20DE or SR20DET. I know of one locally that is getting a Lexus 4.0 V8 fitted (Nissan V8 was just too wide to fit without major work - but even with the Lexus V8 the steering box is going to be replaced with a rack to make more room)

Would love one, but I have enough cars for now (reads wife would kill me) - a new one from SA would be good.

Plenty of these is oz. They're certainly quite a cult car here. In fact for years there was one (still running a NA A series) that was the outright fastest car at the local bitument sprints. Very impressive car to watch!

The only faster cars now are a modified evo 8 and Skimmo's 240Z turbo (see my gallery).
