I need some advise on the best way to remove the two vaccum connectors on the front intake manifold that snapped flush. :stupid:

I was thinking of pushing or pressing them straight through, is there a better way.

Not familure with the N36 and these connectors, were they press in or screw in? Best way to get them out depends on how they were put in.

The intakes were on the 73 and 74 Zs. Definitly not screwed in, they look to be pressed in is my guess. Trying to get some ideas on replacing them.

Ok, if they were pressed in I would drill them out, since they have a center hole it will be easy. Start with a drill just bigger than the center hole and work up one step at a time until it removed. If you are doing this on the car, which I hope you are not, pack the drill bit with heavy grease, it will help collect the shavings and keep them from going into the intake. Best thing would be to remove the manifold from the car to do the work.

Another option would be to get some brass/steel/aluminum tubing from a hobby store that will just fit into the hole and JB weld them in, using them as the connectors. I wouldn't think the difference in size should make too much differance and may be an easier out to getting them drilling/replacing.

most of my emmessions have been removed and Ihave a euro balance tube but the two that I see are both threaded, one goes to the crankcase and the other to the brake booster, not sure if that helped but I would try a try a drill bit made to remove broken bolts

self-tapping screw and visegrips might work. soak with PBBlaster or equivalent, screw sized to grab inside diameter and then work out with pliers or visegrips.

I can email you a copy of the parts breakdown page for the manifold if you can't read these attachments. Check your Nissan dealer to see if you can get the replacement part. Then you can measure the thread and get the tap drill size. Often a left hand twist drill back out the remainder of the broken part. I agree with MLC that a good penetrating oil will help break it loose. If not an "easy out" will do the same. It is basically a multi tooth LH drill except tapered. You should be able to get it at a local industrial supply house like Fastenal or ?

Thanks everyone great suggestions. The intake is off the car so metal shavings aren't a concern. I have a donor intake that has other major problems that I'll try to rob the tubing from to replace the broken ones, once the they are out. I'll let you know how it comes out :classic:

Hey Jim can you take pics, of the item? Is it on the intake or the balance tube itself?

The two vaccum connectors are on the front intake itself just above and behind the carb mounting studs. The opener control valve connects to the first connector and the other one connects to a t-connector, the backfire valve and air cleaner. I'll post some pics tommorrow
