October 28, 200519 yr comment_143525 Are you talking shotgun sounding backfire, or are you talking about the burbling noise on decel? Burbling noise is totally normal especially with a big exhaust system on a performance tuned engine. Shotgun sounding backfire is usually a result of an exhaust leak that ignites unburnt gas in the exhaust. October 28, 200519 yr comment_143527 Leave it alone and learn to love that noise. Richening it will make it lessen a bit, but it isn't a problem and your mixture should be set to make the car work when you're accelerating, not decelerating. October 28, 200519 yr comment_143531 Decelerating down through the gears shows these cars character. Ya gotta love a sports car with a little character. And the occasional "Pop" is the car asking for alittle more attention like- "Hey! Look at me."Love it! October 28, 200519 yr Author comment_143533 cool, I like it actually, but I just wanted to make sure it wasn't something to really be alarmed about Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/17783-question-regarding-backfiring/#findComment-143533 Share on other sites
October 28, 200519 yr comment_143536 I paid alot of money to make my car have that sound. 3 to 2 headers, 2.5 inch exaust, turbo muffler, and a major tune up.I love it when I down shift.Sometimes on the highway I will speed up a little, (ok maybe alot) so I can let off of the gas pedal and here that sound at high speeds.Sounds like your car is running well.Mark Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/17783-question-regarding-backfiring/#findComment-143536 Share on other sites
October 28, 200519 yr comment_143538 If you want to lose the popping sound a resonator in the exhaust system will get rid of it, and about half the volume. October 29, 200519 yr comment_143561 Sometimes the valves can get fall from proper adjustment. You may want to check them just in case. You my have a nice gurgle but a loud pop is not what you want. I would start with the valves. Just did mine tonight. How fun it was:) Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/17783-question-regarding-backfiring/#findComment-143561 Share on other sites
October 29, 200519 yr comment_143609 A beautiful sound it is. Roll your window down more often and enjoy it. That is if you aren't too busy getting asphyxiated by the exhaust fumes. November 3, 200519 yr comment_144324 Ah man thats one of the reasons for driving a sports car, enjoy the sound as well as the looks you get from others wondering whats under the hood. Nothing beats the down shifting sound that a Z can produce when you have a set up to enhance it.
